WSM cast pistons - What are the limitations?
Hi, I'm currently doing some research for an OMC 56ci 70hp looper build this winter.
I figured to start a new thread, to keep the original one a bit more focussed on the general stuff.
At the moment I'm trying to decide on how far to take it compression wise.
In this motor I will use WSM cast pistons. I want to keep it reliable, while squeezing as much as possible out
of it.
My questions are:
-will the cast pistons survive with an SST60 spec head, using good fuel?
-will the be fine reving to 6700rpm, compared to the 6k stock?
Crank is forged, rods are no issue, from what I read. So I guess my week link is the pistons.
Thanks in advance!

Those wsm have seen well over 7k in sum applications, I run wsm at 7k.

Now thats what I was hoping to hear Good news!
Do you run your motors on higher compression? Not sure how much the SST60 heads will give me, maybe around 150-160 PSI cranking compression?

Thanks a lot! That gives me some confidence. I read alot of conflicting opinions on WSM.
Most of them couldn't back it up with real world experience so I'm glad to hear from someone
who actually runs them. Thanks for sharing!

I'll ease ur mind a little more , chris Carson spent a ton of $$$ with them n 1 yr with 0 failures. He rebuilds Tons of motors with these pistons with very good results ,
