there is no U.S.C.G.( united states coast guard) maximum horsepower rating for any boat built by any manufacturer in America, that is over 20 feet long. "sometimes" the manufacturer will "recommend" a maximum, but not always.

in 1988, the apache 22's came from the factory with all sizes and brands of v-6 outboards, as well as a few 300 v-8 omc's. and all those v-8 johnrudes were supplied by Second Effort Performance, Lake Hamilton, Florida. most were rigged with 200 mercs & 2.4 hi-perf. mercs though.

this photo & the above other three photo's are 1986-1988 era apache scouts as new boats just coming out of the factory. this photo, although it is difficult to see, is rigged with twin Yamaha 200's. there were many different engines & combinations sold & delivered in those years.

That is a big setback on a 22’ boat.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by encouraging class hatred. You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn.

I rode in the grey one with the 2 yamaha's at apache back in the day. There was 4 of us in the boat. We came up on a huge cruiser roller in the ic on the way out to the ocean. Me and my buddy were in the back seat. We braced for what i thought was going to be a very rough landing. To our surprise and relief it landed perfectly with no drama.
After that my buddy bought a 1985? 22 apache scout (it said headfirst on the side) with a 3.6 v8 with the factory bracket they used. The boat was bulletproof and he pounded on it relentlessly. The boat was impressive. 75mph. I had a 21 shadow at the same time also with a 3.6 v8 mine ran about 80mph. The apache was heavier and better in the rough than the shadow.
