    Difference between exhaust dividers

What are the differences in exhaust dividers in the production motors? What is the physical difference in them? Would a 2.4 200 work in a 150 Promax? We’re gonna put the little promax under a clamshell and the 2.4 divider plate has the mounting tabs for it. Thanks!

A 2.4 divider won't fit a 2.5. Since we're talking about divider plates, the old 2 piece plates had two flavors of inner. The 2.0 inner is thicker than the 2.4 so it will provide more "stuffing" if you hog out the chest on a 2.4. You can make the brackets to attach the clamshells to a standard 2.5 plate but you have to ditch the regulators and drill the plate to mount the coils directly to it like a 2.4.

Your promax should already have a 260 style exhaust divider. You can make some simple brakcets out of aluminum angle to mount the clamshell "backbone." You will also probably need to ditch the 40 amp charging system. There won't be room for the regulators under the cowl even if you can get the flywheel to fit by ditching the cover. For the cleanest install with the EFI, you'll need the lower front hardware off of a 1987 (one year only) 220 Laser. Any clam backbone will work. You can use the cowl sides from the 220 Laser or any 2.0 150, 2.0 175, or 2.4 175. You don't want a 2.4 200 or 225 carb set. The Laser injection uses the vertical reed style cowling. Any front plate will work. You need the rubber seal that goes on the divider plate from a clamshell motor. It's the opposite shape of the bucket style. You will have to do a little bit of plumbing to get the pee hole in the backbone hooked up correctly.

Here is a mockup of the brackets on a 260 plate:

Thanks! It's gonna be replacing the old 2.0. We've got a line on the front brackets from a laser 220 and also the 16A electronics. I appreciate the picture, that helps. The goal is to put it under there and have the boat look exactly like it does now. It's silverbullet02's boat, I'll show him this thread.

Definitely possible, sounds like you're already headed in the right direction! I cleaned those brackets up and rounded the corners, I stacked washers on the bottom two iso mounts to get the spacing right. The 2.5 is a little longer than the 2.0/2.4 but there is enough play to get everything in there!

I always wanted to do a pro max, the one I did was a 175 EFI I converted to carb. I used the 2.4 200 airbox and latches. I got all the stuff to do the Laser injection cowl swap but didn't end up using it. Maybe some day...

Here's a side shot, you can't really see the detail of the pee hose but I think I used the plastic tee off of a clamshell motor and had to put a loop in the hose to hook it up. The fitting on the back of the 2.5 plate looks like it won't fit in there but it will!

Here you ca see where I had to stack a few washers for the bottom mounts.

And the top bracket cleaned up.

I was also able to tuck the trim harness from the 2.5 up in there. The relays nest on the top of the block right behind the flywheel by the top water fitting. I don't think I have a pic of that.

Yep, gonna pull the 2.0 off and run the 150pm. Strong motor, should be great for just about everything, plus the ease of fuel injection. I know it's gonna be a project, but it should be fun. Thanks for the help here. What did you do for voltage regulator?

Carbs and 9 amp charging, no regulator. You may be able to find room to stash them in there somewhere, but the promax bracket's not gonna fit in the clams I don't think!

Yeah, I figured I’d get creative with mounting. Gonna run a 16a with a single regulator from the 40a system.
