Velocity stack
I got loaned a set velocity stacks from a member to test with my set up. my quest is is this gonna cut off air flow. I have a stock bucket cowl with 1 in spacer and no air box. when I put stocks on. I have very little space between cowl and velocity stacks. Almost makes me wonder if it's so close that it would act like ur hand getting close to carb and choking it out. I haven't ran it yet. Has anyone done this and should I make cowl mods for more air
In pic u can see how close it is to front of cowl

I would definitely open up the cowl.. especially if you have another laying around.
I would put Louvers on the front at least.. I had stacks on and seemed to close like yours(not as close as yours tho,)
And drilled holes in cowl right in front of each carb then put the louvers on...ended up taking the stacks off..
.I just keep the motor covers on all the time now so I dont get crap getting in when I'm driving down the road etc

Forward facing stacks only make power over 85 under they restrict flow.
Its why your opening on the cowl is in the rear. Some weird air pressure flow thing.
Always fun watching drag races to see who has the hood scoop on backwards.
( you have to go foreword fast enough to equal all the air from the ground to space ) (also it can blow the reeds open and burp)

Get a 2.4 air box and chop it down to look like the plate that came on a carb bridgeport...

I wasnt lookin to make power with em , was hoping it mite keep inside cowl little cleaner ,but I doubt it will. I dont run a air box of any kind, so noise wont change any. But I'm leaning toward takin em off for simple reason looks like it will cut down on flow

Taking off air box only makes more noise , no power gain ,air box keeps under cowl cleaner , no gas spit ,oil etc i run air boxes and spin my motors to 8000 rpm if i get the area to do it in minus lake traffic

Oh they don't help at all keeping it cleaner..if it's getting fuel etc under there now it still will
And like they said don't really do anything.. if you got them for free is one thing (why I put them on originally but like I said I took them off) but still don't run an airbox(why I keep motors covered)
Why don't you run an airbox? What's been done to motor?Last edited by mrichartz; 10-18-2019 at 07:58 PM.

Its had james Perry's hands all in it. I guess better question would b ,what hasn't been done haha, its strong motor , gotta push air in to get air out,, no air box fits with 1in spacer. But again. I'm not lookin for more noise or power ,, its loud enuff now.

You should have a cover of some sort over the carbs. As it sits anything gets in the cowling it will get sucked into the carbs. JMO

With your cowl, you’re real limited what you can do. Box won’t fit, and kinda tight with those stacks. Prob gonna have to deal with mess being box can’t go on, I do feel a radiused entry will be better than the sharp edge of just carbs alone. Best bet is to cut center strip out of old box and bolt to carbs to get the smooth transition with minimum room, or powers makes some nice low profile stacks that should fit and look cool, which is what I done under my fishin cowl.
Performance wise the drawback on stacks compared to box/or something with a front at lower rpms is that you lose that free available atomized fuel that comes from reversion. Box may restrict your flow a real healthy breathing mota at higher rpms.

I'll look at the 2.5 airbox and c if I can make sumthin like this , I dont have any more 2.4 boxes. I originally wanted to run airbox but when I put spacer on that went out the window. so now I guess I'm just lookin for sumthin on front (like pics above) my cowl dosent have much air flow I dont think , and I make sure the inside of the bucket was and is clean b4 I run it
