Electronic Ignition Conversation
Over this past weekend, I pick up a 2001 150 Promax XR6.
With all the mods out there today, I would think there is a
mod for electronic ignition conversation for this OB.
After searching around, I'm more confused!
I'm I dreaming or is this possible?
Thanks in "Advance"If you think this is fun, wait til next weekend!

A promax should be efi with an ecu. xr6 would be carb motor. both should have trigger, stator and switchboxes for ignition, which is a type of electronic ignition. Around the year 2000 mercury went to a cdm ignition, which does not use switchboxes if that is what you mean.

Ok guys, I am REALLY confused, but I'm thinking its my ignorance on the subject.
Some background:
I put an MSD box with an trigger wheel/magnet pickup on a subaru engine a few years back.
I gutted the distributor except for the rotor inside. The distributor/rotor was used ONLY for spark delivery. worked very well.
This is the idea I was going for in this OB I just brought. I have no idea HOW spark gets to the plugs before the coils packs, and when the motors rpm rises, the spark
must be faster. Not sure how this happens. On the subaru, the trigger wheel that spins with the crank shaft did this. On an OB, it cant be to far from that idea.
Your question: Pic of my ID plate said XR6. (I thought an XR6 WAS a Promax, I'm I wrong here?)
I understand "trigger, stator are.
What are "switchboxes?"
What is CDM ignition.
Please explain?
I am ALL ears @ this point.
Thanks for all your replys
This rookie going to move up some day!

Distributors and water don't play well together, outboards have been distributor-less for 40yrs.. , the system you have is electronic and much better than what you had on the Subaru for this application since it doesn't require a battery to run and is pretty much water proof..

Im sure yall can see these #'s just forward of the throttle arm @ the top. "2596" what does this # mean?
In the pic, just behind the thottle to the left off the above #'s is CC 1 13....looks like there was a space between the 1's on purpose.
Only #'s I found on throttle side.
Both heads look identical.
What do these numbers mean?
Im now good with the ignition thing........I wont touch it now.If you think this is fun, wait til next weekend!
