Swap Exhaust cans?
Anybody willing to give me the Cliff's notes version of changing out the exhaust can between two 225 promax motors. I have one that is stock (quiet) and one that has a ROS snout and is also drilled. Not quiet! Using on a fishing boat and would prefer to quiet things down some. Assuming drop the lower unit is step one. Trying to get an idea of what I'll need to hang from a hoist or mount to an engine stand along the way.
I have one hoist so I'd like to make sure I have what I need before starting and figuring out another hoist and lift ring is needed. Also assuming the clamp and trim set ups remain intact. One has trim pump in boat and other is all on the clamp. Gaskets? One is an alien cowl and other is older square style. Assuming the exhaust can isn't impacted by the cowl design? Not looking for an "all weekend" project. If it's too much work I'll just listen to it. Thanks for any input.Bullet CC w/ 225 Promax - Sold

I don’t use a hoist at all for that. Drop the lower, take off the four long powerhead stud nuts, pull the bolts in the back of the tuner plate that go down into the can (sometimes they are studs), then pull the hog ring off the bottom of the swivel pin and the can will drop. The tuner plate stays and will support the powerhead.

X2 the absolute best and fastest way to change it out the cowls are very much different in installation the alien will make you pull the power head and install lower cowl then put power head back on if your changing over to a alien cowl . maybe more info do you have a promax on a older stump with square cowling. im assuming you have two complete motor or at least two complete midsections your trying to mix and match

Thanks to each of you. Yes, I have 2 complete motors. Both 225 promax's. One square cowl, one alien cowl. I'd like to leave the cowls with the motor each one is already installed on if possible.

If you leave the cowls with the powerheads they won't be disturbed by the leg swap. You'll just need the gasket between the bottom of the plate and the top of the can (x2).

The lower bolts will get you stuck
Undoing the clip of the lower yoke might work
The remove the mid without removing the powerhead
If you the reverse the bolts while assembling
It will be easier next timeLast edited by PanRonnie; 10-15-2019 at 03:03 PM.
