typically the c;ear would be the UV topcoat . The more clear vs yellow the clear is generally amounts to higher quality and as well carries a higher solids vs solvent content UV inhibitors are high in good quality clears . This situation isnt much differant than someone clearing/topcoating over bare metal on a Rat Rod or a kevlar to show off its characteristics.

You want a satin finish clear or topcoat
You have to sand the primer if you intended to clear it, it wont be even enough to clear over. after clearing over it it will still be shiny. no different then if you used basecoat/clear coat. when you spray basecoat its a matte finish its not shiny. put clearcoat over it and its shiny.

you can also paint it a matte finish but it takes a really good painter so it comes out even. it then cant be repaired/blended or sanded and polished.

paint the boat, then wrap or I cant even believe im saying this- spraywrap the boat in a matte finish.

If you look closely at 545 in the sun you can see colored bits shining back. It seems metallic looking close up. I have thought it might look good as a rat rod finish. I have had 545 out in the fl sun for months and saw no fading or change at all.

Gray 545, no clear or topcoat, I agree I love the look of bare primer, my boat will be almost the same color gray with awlcraft 2000.

The "Pro use only" is so their azz is covered when you don't cover yours ...
Try painting in Florida with the full space monkey suit ....

Chaz = thinking, this is being way over thought ...

Epoxy is a sealer / primer .. don't like how it looks with clear .... don't clear it.

Anyway, they closed my local paint store 20 years ago. I use this on steel projects to keep them from rusting .. leave it outside, hit it with a hammer, let it fall out of the truck bed at 10 mph, it's still there .. IT'S EPOXY

PS .. I use their "HotRodFlatz" gloss black over it on all my roll cages and Merc mid section parts .. good stuff, priced right ..

I made a big mistake painting my GMC truck frame with POR15 years back after dewaxing it. I thought it was epoxy. Its not. Wasn't paying attention. Wondering what black epoxy I can now use, that's brushable, that's preferably catylized, that I can go over the POR15 with?
