XR6 advice
I have a 2001 XR6 150 with bad powerhead, I read in a thread on here somewhere, where a guy was asking about changing out Powerheads and what all would bolt up, they told him any 2.5L would bolt up. Someone suggested looking for a 200EFI powerhead, the guy found a complete motor instead and that’s where my answers ended, I have found a 2000-2008 200EFI or Carb powerhead that’s been remanufactured, so my questions are,,,,
A). Will the carbs off the 150 fit? Or do I need bigger carbs?.
B.) or would it be better to convert to EFI, if so, what all is involved in converting from carbs to EFI.
Oh and also it seems like I remember someone telling him about a bobs tuner or something like that because he wouldn’t get the full 200hp out of the powerhead

Welcome to the site. Don't put 150 carbs on a 200. Finding the correct carbs is likely fairly easy. EFI is an option and in my opinion the way to go but there are several things that need changed and or added to accomplish this. Not real complicated if you know a little about these things. I would definitely change tuner also. Good luck.

Appreciate your help, You helped and now the guy selling the powerhead has me mixed up worse now than I was to start with. He finally answered back and said I have an oring head and to make the swap simple, I needed to stay with an oring motor year 2000 and up ( which his is listed as a 2000-2008 200EFI/ carb 2.5L oring head). So that made me think he was saying it would fit fine. Pretty much said the same about the carbs that I needed bigger carb but then he says 150-200 blocks are totally different...... ssooo yea it will fit or nah it won’t fit??
and as far as swapping to EFI myself.. HA yea that’s not happening. I “thought” I was going to strip the powerhead down myself. When I got to the port side of the motor and seen just exactly how many hoses and control arms,, I was ready for a pack of cigs and I don’t even smoke.

I think he is talking about your electrics. somewhere around 2000 they went to cdm ignition. your xr-6 didn't have switchboxes. the only difference in the rotating assy is deck height and o-ring heads.

Havnt did a pat #check, but thinking this is for a 3.0, because the exhaust ports are different size between a 2.5 200 and 2.5 pro max 225. The ports are same size on on the 200 and xr6 so your plate should be fine. I would change out the long xr6 tuner for a 200 tuner, or better yet, the Bob’s. Carbs could be used, but will need to be re-jetted. Electrics can be swapped over

that’s the best news I’ve gotten all day, I have to order a new trigger assembly, the wires just got old and broke and shorted out, according to the mechanic he claims it shorted out and was causing it to double fire on #4 piston..
I’ll order some jets when I place the order for the trigger too
I sure appreciate yalls help!!

x2 on the oil injection stuff if your xr6 is a 2001 it should be cdm stuff im thinking so it could be bolted on to the 200 long block also the exhaust plate will work fine if it has that old long tuner just cut it off with saw i cut plenty of them either way u wont be able to tell it. back around 25 years ago i spent so much money on "special tuners " its embarrassing to own up to it, after smoke was gone it was BS i still have some of those G force tuners laying around what a load of crap it was best tuners out the are 2.4 200 bell tuner, stock Bridgeport tuner, bobs tuner even at that the gain is minimal. a stock 225 pmax tuner looks exactly like a 200 efi tuner so go figgure.the olnly difference in the 200 and the 150 is carb size and cylinder ports WMV 18 is what on the 200 and wmv 16 are on the xr6

The reality of the exhaust plates are that all the bottoms are just alike and the top half is different on the 225 pmax versus 200/150
