Merc Opti 225 no tell-tale only while flushing

Hi everyone, I have an 06’ Merc Opti 225. I recently put this motor together after powerhead rebuild. It has new impeller and pretty much new everything. Maybe 10 hrs since rebuild. The tell-tale only spits water when boat / motor is in the water. While flushing with ears to LU or also tried plugged water hose to flush connection it doesn’t tell-tale, lets water out the prop exhaust but no water through tell-tale hole. Any ideas?

The tell tale is the water that cools the compressor. I would start at the strainer in the mid and blow thru the hoses going to the compressor and fuel rails, then the hose to the cowl fitting. It has a blockage. Bugs love to get in there and nest up. Tampa got a lot of bugs.

@XstreamVking thing is that it spits water with no issues while boat / motor is on the water. Good pressure, constant steady water stream. It only runs with no tell-tale when flushing motor at home / out of the water.

Your not getting good volume on the hose. Try squeezing you muffs together before putting them on and also pit some tape over the factory low water pickups of you have them

Got some info elsewhere that helped and wanted to share here. This weekend I came home from boating and hooked the muffs, reved to 900-1000 rpms, covered the 4 low water pick up holes and boom lol, started releasing water out the tell-tale!! Was told is a common thing with bigger 3.0+ motors.

Only if you have the low water pick up in the nose. Mercury sells this to seal LWP while flushing or you can use tape like Bobby suggest.

I keep a roll of the shrink wrap tape in my cart, that cover works well but the Yamaha's need tape. For just me at home?.... the cover all the way.
