OZ of oil for a 3.0 Fat Shaft Sportmaster

I have seen something on this in the past but the search didn't turn up anything.
I have always been told to fill from the bottom until visible at the vent.
I realize there are probably numerous Sportmaster configurations and the oil capacity can vary based on gears and shaft size.
    I have a 3.0 fat shaft with 1.62 gears.
    Thoughts?

When I first filled mine to the vent it built up pressure and blew the shift shaft seal out and I was told to just put in 28 oz and have had no problems since
