1997 gl 150 rod gone through the front half

just putting this out there to see what you guys think about welding this up and also if you know if another front half could be used on this motor if the weld dont take ?
also what would cause this to happen. motor just supposedly been rebuilt lasted like just 30 seconds on the hose at just idle . not revved up at all . premix fuel , vro was disconnected .

    thanks in advance guys.

That can be welded up and be fine...or swap a different front half on..looks like a rod bolt came through..if that happened 30 seconds into the first crank up after a rebuild ,then maybe someone got a rod cap on backwards...or forgot to torque the rod bolts....

If the rod came loose the crank is junk. And you would have heard that when running. More the likely the piston seized and broke rod, in that case motor may be reusable. What pistons were used? Was the rod fixture used to assemble rods?

yes i see it thru the hole i was not thinking about what else could have caused it but the probability that piston stuck is more probable the the cap coming loose especially after rebuild when a piston sticks in a particular hole and alum is deposited on the sleeve walls it cannot be just bored out and re pistoned most of the time as aluminum on the sleeve causes the piston to push the wall of that cylinder outward and when it cools off a gap has been born between sleeve and sleeve holder creating a no heat transfer situation and same hole will stick again shortly i only learned thsi from jim ruck after he refused to just rebore a block i sent to him long years ago then confirmed by James perry after that!!!!! afterwards i no longer bored any cylinder that had stuck a piston and left metal on the sleeve i had a sleeve installed just my 02 thanks to performance marine he was thinking and i was not but when you get 74 its legal

it was 30 seconds on a hose at idle ...don't thinks that would be a seized piston...

Is the rod cap intact? If so a foreign object got between the rod and block. (Reed plate retainer screw / bolt.) If there's no other internal damage that hole looks like it could be welded.

I'm the owner of the 97' faststrike 150. Bought the motor. Claimed to have had a $5000 repair job. It's like new condition. Mounted it on the boat, hook up electrical, over looked everything. Had it on muffs and premix. Initial start was real nice, 3, 4 turn overs a it fired and idled. No.more the 30 sec, I heard 2, 3 loud clicks in the engine, and immediately stalled. Its was locked up. Opened the heads, to find one piston not moving.

I have the crank case off now. Tomorrow I will have more pics. This is my first time having a power head opened up, and I feel like I have to inspect everything now. I will be replacing all 12 of the rod cap bolts. They both snapped at the heads. There is new rings on all pistons and one new sleeve.. see.. this is what I've found so far.. blown rod: stern side- center. New sleeve insert : starboard side - center. It looks to.me the sleeve in out in offset anout an 1/16", to an 1/8". Would this have cause such an immediate failure?
