Also, suggest you place the motor in a big ole water bucket and take a short video running. Wondering if the water pump housing might have been over torqued on installation causing a little warp.

I doubt I’m even making enough heat to open a set of 120’s to be honest.

The big ole bucket of water was the chattahoochee River Lol. Things aren’t much different on a water hose really.

would warpage cause an over pressure like that?

Well, I always go the big bucket at home route when the gremlins start up. Never liked the hose and muffs.

I’ve got one here, I’ll try it again and see.

Will do, I’ve got a few more boating days left here in AL. I’m hoping to get this figured out soon.

I did some more investigating this morning. I took the poppet cover off, drilled and tapped a hole to force the poppet closed. In doing that, the pressure gauge jumps up to 25-30 psi, and lugs the motor with so much pressure. This is with the hose that runs from the top of the block to the poppet valve cover, clamped off. Thermostats begin to work at this point, but the temp gauge climbs past thermostat opening temp. I feel they it would overheat quickly at this point. I pulled the foot off and put another water pump impeller and housing on. Still the same scenario. I’m pulling the powerhead and looking at the adapter the next chance I get, what do I need to look for? I do have another adapter/mid plate setup I can use, if need be.

Put a new poppit bushing and retainer in the block. Glue the bushing in with weather strip adhesive and stake the retainer in with a small chisel. Water pressure at idle should be 5-10 lbs and fluctuate when the stats open and close.

Waiting on the poppet kit now, I’m not confident that it will be fixed with just that, is the thing. Im definitely going to try it. If not, I’ll be pulling the powerhead.

Poppet kit is installed and running. I’m making proper temp and pressure at idle now. Only problem I have now is as soon, and I mean instantly as rpms go over 1000, temp plummets and never comes back up while cruising. I’m going to pull the heads off and the exhaust plate off and check for blockages. If none are found, I’m gonna send it as is. If it seizes, it seizes . I’m out of options at this point. I’m ready to learn how to drive my boat. I guess this is more of a frustration post than anything lol.

Water temp will drop to around 110 depending on inlet water temp when poppet opens. This is the reason it’s so important to allow engine to warm up good on stats and get good heat soak in sleeves before blast off, especially in colder temps.

so what I’m seeing from this point on may be normal then?
