    OMC 140 v4 looper

Thinking about going to the white side for a project down the road, and was wondering what years were the 140 looper motors made. I think they would work for my application and be lighter than V-6 mercs. Anybody know what they weighed (20in)? How much stronger than the cross flow are they? Thanks

By far the most powerful ones are the 95- i think 99 130's with improved carbs and other goodies which also made it alot smoother. huge wallop of torque, rivaling many v6's. the 20'' versions weighed 365 lbs, only 10lbs lighter than the 60 degree v6's. from 85-87 they were a smaller 1.8L block and pretty cranky. Most issues were solved with the larger 2.0 block in i think 1988. Lots of guys on this board know much more!

1993 V4 looper 140 weighed 365 lb according to my old brochure. That was a 2L carbed engine. The earlier cross flows were lighter. A crossflow V4 listed at 301 lb in a 1987 brochure, but that is a 90/110. In 1993 the 140 was a 1.8L and weighed 365

I still have two V4 props I need to sell. 24 Raker, 17 Stiletto (sp?). We switched our white motor to a V6 last year.

Thanks for the info. Not sure if the 2.0 v4 is much lighter than the 2.0 v6 Merc, which i have. Wasn't the SST100 motor the 2.0 liter V4? I wonder what differences in that motor and the fishing motor, powerhead wise. The crossflow is the lightest sounds like, but really want the looper. Oh well i have time to decide. Thanks

the sst100 was a stock powerhead less heads shaved

yes similar weight to a Merc with nic bores, biggest different is when you rebuild the OMC its way cheaper than a Merc.
