It’s going to be easier to replace the one bad block with a good used unit then it would be to strip all of them. I understand what your saying, never thought of that. I’ll run them across some wet 2000 grit paper pulled over a piece of glass, sound about right?
last time a stripped the rubber off a reed cage it was Because I ported the cage out. I installed a set of boyesens without the reed stops as they recommend, well they broke off and trashed that Polaris 400. I will never not use the factory reed stop again lol. 99% of the airflow is right at the tip of the reed anyway, the amount it opens isn’t as important as cutting the cage for good flow near the tip was the lesson learned there.Last edited by chevy355mark; 09-23-2019 at 08:55 PM.

Oh yes definitely alot less work then stripping..
Some say the bare metal is a better seal rubber decays etc but I have no idea
And I would say a bit courser than that like 400 grit and finish up with like 1200-1600 at least that's what I do..
Sure if you search on here there's plenty and might have directions with them or call Chris and he will tell youLETS GO BRANDON.... LETS GO BRANDON
Sometimes I talk to myself...then we both just laugh and laugh

ok so a little update, i got the reeds done and installed and the lower units off for water pumps and shaft seals. boy was that tedious doing all those reeds.
so something i noticed that,s worth mentioning is one of the cowlings is drilled out inside for additional airflow, i believe this may be a common modification? would this cause any significant running differences between them?Last edited by chevy355mark; 09-28-2019 at 07:49 PM.

Interesting the idle wasn’t messed up if the seal was bad guess the computer was able to cover it up. But I would say a lean sneeze is definitely a result.
The cowling thing not much it can run cooler cooler and not warm up as much when cooler if their in the wrong area it can poo poo the air flow and reduce availability of air. For the engine (the reason the opening is in the back not front)Last edited by Motv18; 09-28-2019 at 11:28 PM.

It did mess the idle up, i overcompensated the fuel by adjusting the tps sensor over spec on the rich side.

Quick update. So I went ahead and had the injectors cleaned and checked with a local guy here and he said they were horrible. I think that may have been the smokin gun in this diagnoses.

All repairs are done and after a water test, no improvement in performance or economy AT ALL. I will say they start, run and idle smoother... big deal lol. Im glad i did the reeds and injectors but boy is that an over hyped deal, good maintenance and good piece of mind knowing the reeds are not broken but these 2 items have no real effect on power output realistically, just for anyone trying to diagnose a running issue by reading through the forums. was it worth it, absolutely, but my problem goes deeper.
so now i will do what i should have done to start with. CHECK THE TIMING!Last edited by chevy355mark; 10-06-2019 at 04:57 PM.
