Oh so is the 1000 RPM thing recent or no?
If reeds have been like that RPM could be something else.
I would still check the props I got two that I thought were matched and after looking they were just a hair different and made the difference on takeoff like that... Although it didn't even out after planning off.. but the holes could make the difference..
And yea things going thru the motor can make a mess..
    Worse than a Reed
a Reed stop went thru one of mine .
That's why I went with what I did..

you know I'm about to get "forumed" on these reeds. you know when you start reading too much on the forum and all the sudden you absolutely have to do, buy, or check/rebuild something lol. was that broken reed stop corrosion related

so should i go for the 6 pedal or 3 pedal carson reeds. do you recommend any additional parts while im in there.

Not corrosion related but they were 30 years old and the older style the newer ones the gap between them doesnt go down as far..and has more metal in there ..
But I didn't want to use stops so I used boyesen
And motors were getting spun higher and I wasn't gentle on the boat either.
Stick with the 6 petal.. BUT let someone who has them and uses them give you advice on that..
Any thing else in there ? Stuffers since you will have it open

It starts to get tough to handle at about 60mph, plenty of throttle left. It cruises 45mph at around 4200 rpm to give you an idea. It performs pretty well but the motors are too deep in the water with the 30” shafts even on the highest mounting point is should still be a few inches higher or convert to 25”.

It’s not heavy it just used to weigh nothing... no stringers at all in its original design and all balsa core keel to rub rail, pretty crazy. It’s a 1971 seabird.

ID:	449306That’s the boat. It was actually up for sale on this forum many years ago with twin 2.5 merc. By the time I purchased it the boat had one of the 2.5s torn down to just a leg mounted to the transom.

Yea I’d like to convert them, I’m putting off my impellers because I’d like to put them back together as 25”. Is there anyone who can chop and weld the shafts without going through a lower unit rebuild. I can handle the shift shafts myself, I can weld stainless but I have no tooling to true a driveshaft.

I would definitely leave that to someone who does it..
    Chris Carson does it..
He cuts the shaft then cuts the shaft splines in while it in the lower unit so no need to take apart
    And that way no welds
You don't have adapters right ?

OK ... second guess is the weak side is a member of the "black plug tribe" and has a bad bobbin on the stator or a bad (coil) CDM .

Let me know when you have run a full diagnostics test, and I can take the blindfold off ..
