2.4 intake
Will trade a 2.5 intake for a 2.4 intake
This is my whole sad story
I traded a perfect motorcycle for a basket Case 1989 gambler SS the only saving grace was the motor was rebuilt with receipts after it blew up I had already redone the entire boat and trailer I felt obligated to fix the problem the previous owner indicated he took a 2.5 block had it rebuilt bolted al the components back on it so I ordered a rebuilt stock 2.4 powerhead upgraded with a Bobs performance exhaust tuner low-water pick up Boysen power reeds for a 2.4 now I go to bolt the reed block assembly onto the motor and the four center bolts are a half of a hole off !!! I Could slot the four holes and everything would bolt up but now I am concerned about compatibility because I was informed I may have a 2.5 intake.
Here are the numbers I found on the block intake and carbs
block-884 9764 intake on block-968 9078 intake or carb reed assembly-96700 carbs-1374-54270
If anyone can help I would appreciate itLast edited by gambler ss; 09-18-2019 at 01:17 PM.

Done it many times. I probably have an intake and will check tomorrow.

2.4 and 2.5 component compatibility
Thanks for assuring me slotting the intake holes will work,
My next concern is are the carbs for a 2.4 or a 2.5 or are they the same for both and you just change the jets ? The rebuild kit was a stock one not sure if I have to get different jets to accommodate the reeds, tuner, and porting?
Thanks ! any help identifying what I have with the serial numbers I provided in my last post and if it will all work together would really be appreciated .
If there is anything else I can do to get a little more out of the motor I’m all ears the 1989 gambler ss Hull is a little heavy, I’d sure love to get close to 80 mph out of it!

2.4 carbs will work on 2.5 but you're kinda on your own for jetting. Many guys swap the 2.4 carbs on to their 2.5's though as they are much simpler to tune. And I say kinda on your own as you can't look up proper jetting in the manual. There are several on here who can point you in the right direction on jets with a little info on your setup...

Thanks for responding
The carbs have a wH cast on the flangers but no number next to it , on the top of each of them are stamped #1 carb-46-13238
#2 carb-46-23278
#3 carb-46-33268

Those r wh 46. Very good carb. Keep em , run a 2.4 carb gasket on 2.5 intake
Now we need to know everything that's been done including comp and port work if any

2.4 -2.5 Merc project
I ported the exhaust ports to match the bobs performance tuner- it’s a stock 2.4 rebuilt power head, installed boysen power reeds , solid motor mounts , and put a bobs low water pick up on.
I haven’t even turned it over yet just dropped the power head on today so I don’t know compression.
The guy helped me take it apart 2 years ago isn’t around and I’m not a mechanic so I’m struggling with the assembly!
Im missing parts for the shift linkage on the motor!!
do you know where I could find the missing shift linkage ?
