Tavares would be great if they would let you stretch a course out. The CRA course is set up smaller then what we used run the class D hydros on. They are no stranger to hosting events, you could manage and charge a spectator admission fee/event memorabilia sales , ramps are great, hotels on 441 are reasonably close by, food vendors etc. are all easy....
I see nothing but positives for this location other then a course size limitation. If you could drop thru the squeeze band and down to Mt. Dora for a turn then it would be epic "there is also launch (pit/fuel option) down there".

Take a look at this map idea.
This would give an 8-mile lap if the perimeter of the red line is followed exactly. A true lap with runover would probably be closer to 8.2-8.4 miles per lap since boats will round out the turns. The Yellow lines indicate a idle zone or safety perimeter where spectators could be in their boats or a movement area for towing in stopped boats. The minimum distance from the Safety Perimeter is 1000' to active race lanes.
Given the amenities of this area... I agree this lake might be a great venue. Any other thoughts of contacts in this area? With lots of land areas towards the ramp and Main Street park for the Start/Finish line... this could be a great 38 lap race course for a 4-hour endurance race.
If we Stage start of each class with a running start and three Pace Boats, separated by a two minute interval, each class would have a clean start and it would be 6-10 minutes before the Extreme Marine class boats would be possibly catching the bulk of the next class, should everyone be running at least 60-80mph.

the CRA is no longer a club, so the options are unlimited. Tom Smyth is the head of Florida Vintage Raceboat Association, which had all of the equipment and rights handed off to them, APBA affiliation etc. they can do whatever they want. I'm sure some more bouys would need to be acquired to make a longer course, you could run it all the way down to Mount Dora and have a turn in front of the big old hotel, I belive it's the Lake View or something like that.
most overnite successes usually take at least 10 years

I know that they were always nervous about getting too close to the Dora canal and blocking traffic with the CRA events. It would be better if there was any way to incorporate the Mt. Dora viewing area as well and leave more outside cushion for spectator and or open mobility area for weekend boat traffic.
Gilbert park has a nice ramp and close to additional spectator viewing.

The opening at the canal is .332 of a mile or 1750 feet. While that sounds like a lot, take 500 feet out for a safety cushion on the shorelines and now think about the wave action from boats going the opposite direction. Its actually just as wide as the Colorado river by the Blue Water Casino where they run the Parker, but we will have to use four patrol boats rigged with lighting, flags and flares to keep such a close pass area safe for everyone. My big concern are the smaller boats, but I think it's doable if we bring the entry at more of a straighter approach.
Mr Fun, I've committed to buying about $10k in buoys just for our events as there will be specific ones for turns, pit lane access and spectator boats/milling areas.

A class for 15-17' 99ci might also bring out some tri-hulls. Those guys always put on a good show!

The thought of driving 100 some MPH and having to drive around Tri hulls going half my speed pushing up a wall of water sure is a good show and deadly.

Tavares has a lot of hotels right on the waterfront now and the seaplane ramp is very big and they have 100 octane at the pump. I may have something to play with the Argo's.
