Liquid Nails Used In Lamination ?
I'm still working on the tear-down of my recent Glastron GT150 picked-up 2 weeks ago. I've found what I believe is "Liquid Nails" construction adhesive. It had this brown, non-hardened, rubbery type stuff everywhere. The previous restore had used it to bed all of the plywood and joints. There was little strength and the plywood could be pulled easily by hand. They had used cheap wood deck screws to attach the cross pieces to the stringers and the plywood to those same stringers - all were rusted and none found to be sealed with 3M 5200 or any other sealer. In fact, there was not one sign of 5200 being used in the entire build.
This adhesive material had no value. It wasn't holding anything together and was in the process of breaking down from what I believe was a restore in 2014/2015. Wrong material. Wrong job.

Gotta disagree. I've used liquid nails over 15yrs in const and every time I gotta get it off sumthin its bout impossible and hard as a rock. Not sure if u was using something little diff?
See I did hardwood and if we got some on a tread (step) it had to come off cause it wont stain and stands out like sore thumb. Did floors for 20 yrsLast edited by Merc 2.5; 09-12-2019 at 06:40 PM.

I'm a Contractor. A real Contractor, not a guy with a truck and a toolbox that won't stay shut. I hate Liquid Nails. Why? Because it works so good.
I have to qualify this... NOW there are several grades of LN but the original formula was an extremely good adhesive. Extremely. Still is. And as far as I know completely water resistant.
Lord knows I have removed enough of it. Usually taking the substrate too.\\\/// \\\/// \\\/// \\\/// \\\/// \\\/// \\\/// \\\/// \\\/// \\\/// \\\/// \\\/// \\\/// \\\/// \\\/// \\\/// \\\/// \\\/// \\\///

Not sure where this went off the rails but..no one said it wasn't a really good adhesive...just saying it remained flexible And that it was probably another construction adhesive(seeing as it was all mush I know there are some that if they frezze or get wet before they cure turn to crap.....but even if it was liquid nails not the right application/place to use it..

Guys, I've used Liquid Nails only a few times and am certainly no expert with it's identification or application. What I pulled apart in the floor of this boat is brown and does look like what I remember coming out of my caulking gun when building my shop. Here are some more photos showing where this "brown stuff" was used. I pulled the wooden cross braces out of the rotted wood and from the construction adhesive by hand. No hammer, no crowbar, just grab and pull up. Perhaps this adhesive was not meant for wet environments? Have a look for yourself below where I've circled the brown stuff. Gordon

This looks to me like a hull that was submerged awhile. The encapsulated wood seems to be intact but the joints are compromised.
