Wind er down easy for a few weeks Dave, much easier than cold turkey. Smoking cold turkey allllll the way but booze a few weeks weening off is good. Quitting booze is exponentially easier than quitting smoking

Gary Slagle you hit the nail on the head. I only get Sunday to sleep in and then work on the house or the boat--between my son and me boat has been a stalled project for three years. I love my work, hate my job, but either way I need to retire (66 now) next year so I can have time to finish my projects and start new ones. And yup I now would much rather sit around talking than stand around talking.
Instigator, how the hell can you complain about being fat? You don't know what fat is!Per Rock:
"Once I bought my first Hydrostream boating changed forever for me."
Per my hero Instigator:
"I try not to let common sense interfere w/my boat buying decisions."

Quitting drinking = good.
Been about 9 months for me so far.
Got tired of drinking almost every day.
12 to 18 cheap canned beers at a sitting.
No bars, no jail, no fights, no d.u.I's, etc.
Always worked while drinking, and damn good at it!
Just gets old.
Gonna be 48 in a couple months, do not wish to spend my whole life drunk.
Learned to spend time with myself, and my thoughts without the release of worries and tension through alcohol.
It's a skill set for sure.
If you're thinking about it, you're ready.

Part of it for me too is my mobility is starting to really show signs of age - 2 spinal surgeries later, its hard to bend like I used to, get up under the nose of the boat or twisted into that contorted position to get to the wires, use to be a runner, now out of breath after 2 flights of stairs lol. Actually thought for a while about getting out of the boating thing and going back to cars or motorcycles - getting older sucks is all I can say for certainty.

At 60 I like being in the garage after work but my wife always has something for me to do ,or mowing grass ,working on the boat and actually going out in it is what I look for now, still like passing bass boats and jet skis or anyone else who tries lol

This has to be the best thread on S&F. You guys are fun to read.
Mid 60’s , still working every day at a good job, enjoy what I do and am still pretty good at it. Probably retire at 70, and look for the next adventure. Building on to the garage right now cause I need to get the boat inside. The garage is my space. The wife decides the house interior, I decide the garage/shop interior. Works out well. Planning on a mini-split HP out there so the hot days won’t be so hot and the cold days won’t be so cold. My motivation to tackle too many projects (like I used to do) has dropped over the last 5 years, and I am happy to come in earlier, clean up and sit down with the Mrs. to watch some recorded Live PD or Homicide Hunter. Still not real good at relaxing, though. Partly because there is always something that needs done, and partly because I don’t like to waste time. More boat projects will be in my future, just not as many.
Every day that I wake up is a blessing from God. I’ve had challenges like all of us do, but have been an overcomer thanks to how God has shown me mercy. I could have left this world many times over the years due to my own actions, but he has allowed me to stay here a while longer and see my children and grandchildren grow. I am a blessed man.You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by encouraging class hatred. You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn.

Me? 70 and still active if ya call active doing a ten minute job that takes all week. Damn,I spend more time writing notes "to Do" than doing them! Its a rough life..!
