    How to stay motivated when...

    We’re fat old ****ers?

My wife and I call us FOF’s.

Reminds me of the old days when we were young and had time but no money to work on our cars.
Then the lucky ones of us became successful and had the money but no time.

Now what happens when you have the time and money and no motivation?

By time I mean after 6 on weekdays and whatever you can get away w/on weekends.

My wife just had me buy a functioning boat so I wasn’t In the shop on the weekends working on my Checkmate.

So now, after a hard day at work through the week all I want is a shot n a beer.

Thinking maybe if I give up alcohol, not only would I lose 20 lbs but maybe gain some motivation??

Any 60+ FOF’s that are still going out in the shop after work?
    Weekends??
Married ones too, not because you got nothing else to do.
Not being derogatory, but I got a lot of **** done too when I was single 😉

My pile of stuff waiting on me to install on the boat is growing.
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

i feel your pain Gary, I"v been collecting stuff for boats ,camper ,motorcycles & house projects ever since my divorce a couple years back & find it hard to get motivated enough to go outside after working all day , mainly due to the Florida heat, but all that should change in October for me as the weather may start to cool a bit & I am RETIRING!!!! one thing is for sure that the older i get ,the more i like a good place to sit !

Set an alarm for one hour and start a task you think you can complete in one hour. Do not look at the clock, stay focused on your task. After the hour your usually in gear and motivated. For some it takes two hours. Time waits for no man, make yours count

Man, the work I used to get done. Would work 24 hrs to finish a project by a deadline. Now retired and take tourists out on my boat. Still hard work for an old fat #@%&^%. Still tinker in my shop, but don't get near enough done. Like Gary above said the fla heat is oppressive and will take it out of you. Winter is my get=r=dun time of the year. But, it's also my time to get outdoors and play....Decisions,decisions. Were running out of tomorrows at an alarming rate guys... Play as much as you can....

Gary, as a young man I always wondered about half finished car/boat/bike/etc projects that I would see tucked in the corner of garages/barns at our family friends while growing up. I never understood why folks never finished projects......

Fast forward to my 50s and I’m going on 5 years on my old CM race boat project and I’m still not done...... I guess life and changing priorities just get in the way as we get older. Also, for me, it’s not the final ‘splashing’ of the boat but the project that I enjoy.

    Cheers brother-

I'm 61 in a few days. I wake up wanting a shot and a beer. I still work 14 or 16 hours a day if I want to. Don't change anything my friend. By this time in life you have figured out how YOU want to live it

Fresh projects bring fresh energy. I purge all stalled projects if they sit for too long and buy something new with the funds. The too long aspect is subjective of course but I sold a project car I had for 20 years last year which was holding me back on other projects like the hydrostreams and whatnot. Couldn't be happier to be rid of it and onto something fresh. Sometimes bold moves must be made to keep the cobwebs from gettin to ya.

Sober livin is fantastic imo. I dont miss the booze one bit and get more done, wake earlier, feel better, more money to play with

ALL things in moderation. I'm sober... moderately. When it's appropriate.

Guess it’s a bit overwhelming at times when I see what I’ve collected and know it all needs work.

Started buying vintage bikes while I could afford them, not thinking of the time they need or my desire to ride them instead of finishing the glass work on the bracket for the twin O/B Mate.
Forgot how much I enjoy riding. Thought I would be content just tinkering w/them

Closing the shop and getting a real job turns my pole barn into a giant toy box, full of tools too.
That was a big change, and the checking acct likes it.

Used to be motivated to go back in the shop at 6, after dinner.
Now I want to sit on our front porch w/my wife and admire the gorgeous farmland/country that surrounds our home.
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

Quoted from Mick what a drag it is getting old. Golden years I ain't seen no gold. I am not wine and getting better with age. 69 next month why I can remember when that number meant something sexual. A physical at the doctors does not include foreplay. But with cooler weather coming I hope to do a little boating beside painting the house and the rest of the honey do list.
