90’s 9.9 with plastic top and bowl carb?

So I have this 1990’ish Evinrude 9.9 that I bought almost brand new at an estate sale for next to nothing. It fired right up and ran great. But then I let it sit for ten years without even draining the carb. So today I finally got to it and pulled the carb. And of course, just like on my 1993 115, it has the black plastic float bowl AND black plastic top cover (with the mixture knob). Now before I clean it up and rebuild it with a new kit, I don’t want to waste my time if the plastic top and bottom are likely to be warped (like the plastic float bowls were on my ‘93 115).

I know they made this motor for a long time. Should I be using a different year carb? I’m not obsessed with getting a 15hp carb, but not against it either. I just want to get back in business. Who would you seek out to buy one of these?

Plastic bowls can usually be trued up with a flat surface and 320 grit paper.
Worked on my gt150 a few years back.
As long as you don't have to sand into the gasket sealing ridge,
A new gasket, don't overtighten, should be o.k.

the bowls on these usually don't go bad...the top cover sometimes cracks around the air needle...everything is still available if it needs replaced...IMO they are the best running ,of the 9.9/15 carbs ...the cover # may have been obsoleted, but BRP has a # for a kit with gaskets and needle....

Getting ready to do this 15hp. Same setup. No worries bout the plastic.
Picked this up yesterday, let's just say it was "not as advertised"
Guy ended up giving it to me for free!!!
Full of mouse nests, it's stinking up the garage.
Crystalized mouse piss all over it.
No chewed wires that I can see.
Yuck. At least it's not all salted up.Click image for larger version.

That carb will have a small tube inside that goes from the body to the plastic high speed jet housing..... be sure to replace that tube, usually comes with the kit.

Carb bowl mounting surface is real meaty, doesn't look like it will have issues.
If it needed truing up, you'd be into the gasket sealing ridges immediately, different from v4 and v6 cross flow plastic bowls.Click image for larger version.

BTW, can I use carb cleaner on the plastic idle mixture top cover? The one that houses the needle valve?

You can soak the parts in OMC/BRP Engine Tuner to clean everything - it’s fantastic for cleaning “green goo” from stale fuel, takes under an hour. Used it a ton on OMC plastic carb parts, never a problem.

Where can you buy engine tuner or mercury power tune in useful quantities for a reasonable price? I see a single spray can of OMC on Amazon for $22. Obviously that is not going to cut it.

Ok got it soaking in Seafoam. Carb isn't that dirty and no varnish so maybe it's not a tough test for the Seafoam?

These elastomeric Evinrude gaskets look re usable. Are they? The carb kit I got has new ones though.
