I was also very impressed with that Porta Bracket. I really never had a close-up look at one of these at those speeds until now.

I have mounted a lot of porta's brackets. Some are over 15 yrs old now. Never needed the warranty. They're that good.....

Just curious with the porta bracket....when lower and raising the bracket, the setback changes. Does that have an effect on the handling and balance of the boat? Or does the couple of inches not make a difference?

You articulate the bracket to the amount of setback you want, and then bolt it to the boat at the desired height you want your engine to be, or where the boats transom allows it to be mounted. I normally adj. for full setback and bolt the bracket for the correct prop shaft dimension. The porta's allow for a lot of tuning. You do get some change in boat attitude, but you control it if you set it up correctly. I have a 26'' porta on my 26' boat and it is incredible the amount of ride attitude I can change with it. The lower plate acts as a giant trim tab. But I can also raise the prop above the keel of my boat for shallow water operation. For normal hi speed operation I have full set back.

Ok...I got it. After looking at the video again I see the dynamics.

On the short 8" Porta Race like I have on my DW 28 the setback change is very very small . Motor never moves around like the Bobs .

The difference in setback on the 8" is less than 1/2". I try to set it up so that the optimum height is in the niddle where the setback is the most. Strongest bracket you will ever find. 10 bolts to the transom instead of the normal 4.
