Who is the best in the Tri state at painting boats? Not sure if I want paint, gelcoat, or something else. Just wondering who can help me and do the job when I am ready

I see pictures on Raybo's website, looks like they do awesome work on a variety of boats. Not looking forward to the cost - Before I call them, how much do you think spraying an 18 ft Hydrostream one color would cost?

I’ve gotten 2 verbal quotes from two different places, neither place seen my boat just pics and me telling them what I want. 4-5 grand for my Ventura 16’6” here in Wisconsin. I just might learn how to paint a boat...

I guess if it comes out perfectly it would be worth the 4-5k but I was hoping it would be a little less then 3k...let me finish the boat first and see what I wanna do from there

I've shot all the gel myself on my build. It's not that bad. You'll need an extra set of hands to help, and a good compressor.

If gell be ready for a $750 materials bill. If paint, it could be $2000 just for materials.

I've never sprayed anything with a compressor before, so it would be a big undertaking for me to do it and I dont feel I would get enough practice/confidence to spray a whole boat. Maybe after a few tries/years on other smaller parts...

I was doing some reading and saw that paint like awlgrip or imron is pretty durable and will have a nice glossy coating, I just don't know if I want paint over my boat in case I need to do future fiberglass repairs. I kinda like how tough gel coat is and it's what boats are made with anyway.

I am considering the 50/50 gelcoat and duratec gloss option at this point...

The duratec is deceptive. I used it several times and went back to just gellcote thinned with styrene. The duratec tends to fade quicker and softens the durometer hardness of the surface.
