Stupid but honest question and sorry to go off topic but what is the advantage of widening the boat when it’s already a good runner?

Every cat design is a compromise. What trait is compromised(only compromise please), when widening an existing, proven, narrower tunnel, offshore cat hull?

    Mark,

The new (wider tunnel cats) are more stable and comfortable in the turns. They also transition faster in most cases Vs. a narrow tunnel. The downside is "the wing effect"-not as forgiving as a narrow hull.

The original Spectre was only a 45" tunnel-Todd added 18" to it. It will be interesting to see how it reacts with its new "bigger scoop", flat deck and windshield.

Those XT500 Yamaha's that we all had at the same time were great bikes. 5+ mile long wheelies . Six bike draft @ 100 mph inch's apart. 1st to 6th back to 1st over and over again, heading to Key Largo for the wet Tee Shirt contest. Then lay them on the ground and drag them under the canal road gate in Fla. City and ride daymn near to Miami without spending more than a few miles on a paved road every here and there. Virginia Key was like the Wild West back then .
Sundays on the bay.. for drool after boats and trophy babe's that went with em
I'm a little worse for wear from some of the get-offs I went thru but overall, great times , thinking back .. we never even got a ticket .

Spent most of the day getting the place ready for the bomb to go off . Never realize how much junk I got scattered around the yard , till i go to pick it all up ..
But I think I'm as ready as I can be ...

    My ol hooptie ...

Speakin of Todd D. I texted him last week, he said he was in Italy visiting relatives.
I asked how's the canoli' in the old country ...

    Such a tease ...
