ALL of Jay's boats over the years, since he started in the early 80's, have been a version of someone else's existing designs. From the smallest, to the biggest stuff he has built.

He owned both Motion and then Spectre company names and original tooling in the past. So as Noli claimed, his designs. It's mostly Skater guys that have accused Motions of being splashes ... I've been in , on , under , both enough to see the differences. Bring your tape measure , pad and pen .. I'll show you more differences than you'll find similarities. But then, why let facts get in the way of a good story ..
Growing up in Miami and wanting one since I was a kid, one in great shape found me just shy of a decade ago.
I know they're not the trick of the week hull , I'm just glad to see someone has got the molds and has started building them again .. Classis Lines

Cigs , Motions and Actions ... a great time to be a 15 year old kid with 5 BHP 350 Yamaha to be able to go around and see what the future looked like ..

Not the 30 or 36. He had some help/advice from a very well known builder but they were his drawings. He did a great job of pumping a lot of affordable cats into the market in a short period of time. I watched that lawsuit nightmare squeeze the hell out of him (such B.S. that a mfg. has to worry about being dragged into a tragic situation like that).

They sold the 30 molds last winter and are focusing on the 32 and to a lesser degree the 36 as well as being a contract builder for other companies. They only sold the 30 molds, they still own the Spectre brand. https://www.screamandfly.com/showthr...hlight=Spectre

They should probably update their website.

It’s great to see a classic resurrected, it’s all good.

If this is public information, can you share more ? Are we talking about splashing laws or injury ? I know Rapid Craft in MN got the living **** sued out of them after some rookie stuffed one and that was that. As I said above, I owned a Spectre 30 for several years and ran it with both 300 Promax's and 300XS's. Thing was awesome.

    Mike,

I had a 30 that I bought new in 95' and became pretty close with Jay. It was an awkward situation being that I was a die hard Skater fan and visited the Skater crew on a weekly basis back then (I will never forget the discussion with Pete when I told him that I was getting one and wanted him to hear it from me first). The simple fact was that I couldn't afford a new 30 skater and the Spectre was much bigger then a 28 (needed for playing on Lk. Michigan). Every article published on the "then new" 30 was nothing but positive and praise.

A few years later when Jay came out with the 36-again they were a big bang for the buck. Jay was really rolling well and selling a bunch of the 36's (he was living the dream on a small scale). Then this happened- https://www.wtsp.com/article/news/lo...r/67-396512436

It eventually cost Jay his marriage, basically killed him financially, and he was ordered not to be able to build a catamaran performance boat.--I don't know if the family felt any better or not by destroying other lives with their law suit or not (my guess is not), and boats don't kill their operators just as guns don't kill people. I have told my family members several times that if I am killed doing what I love to leave it alone and I am sorry but at least I had a smile on my face. Chris hit a freighter wake at speed and was killed in the mishap.
