Evinrude super strangler exhaust

I have just re built an Evinrude super strangler and have run in the test tank, I noticed the midsection was getting quite hot and blistering the paint. I was wondering what cools the midsection.?
Also the exhaust bubble is cooled last in the power head a posed to the standard 140hp. Does anyone have information on whether this is right?

Dump water from the exhaust manifold goes from a hole in the bubble to a hole in the adapter and sprays on the stack.
Make sure those openings are clear. One of my adapters had a mud dauber and one of my manifolds has that hole plugged with (?). Yes the KR manifold (bubble) cools last, on the 140 essentially the bubble cools first.
