1988 2,4 Mercury 200 Carb Motor 2,0 Heads Any Gains,,

Have a 1988 Mercury 200 H.P. On A Bullet 19 Vee. I've Been Out Of the Game For Along Time. And Just Looking For a Little More. For the Son And Myself ..The Boat Runs Good, But Seems Like Theirs More To Be Had. Best It's run Is 66.8 With a 26 Cut Chopper. And 67.8 GPS With a D.A.H. Worked 26 Spinellie.. The Boat Will Only Turns 5700.. I've Dropped To a 24 Trophy And Have Lost 4-5 Off The Top.As It'll Run 62 Or So At 5900.. With Very Good Hole Shot ..The Boat Has CLE Case. And Water Pressure Is 12-14 And I'm 1 1/3'" Above The Pad.My Worry's Is The Comp. at 114-114-112-112-104-104.I've got a Set Of 2.0 Heads And Was Thinking About Bolting These On. Their # Are 1026-5189 Off 150.. Just Wondering If These are worth The Trouble. Thanks. Also Sure I'll Need To Run The 2.0 Head Gasket..

Well I would worry about those 104 on 2 cyl, something goin on ,,,but with added compression mite b death of those low cylinders,..... other than that yes it will work fine,

Yep, need to do leakdown test to determine true conditions. More compression will help performance but will kill weak cylinders quickly...

Motor sounds weak, should turn a 24 WELL over 6k

And should be able to turn the 26 over 6k on a 19v.

My 2.4 200 “super stock” motor would turn 8600 and we weren’t allowed to do a whole lot to them, a stock 2.4 200 turns 7k pretty easily imo.

Powertune cleaner or Quikleen. You may just have sticky piston rings. That is always the first thing to do.

It's easy enough to replace the rings without removing the power head off the boat . Your still making compression and don't seem to have hurt anything yet . I start by removing the heads and get a good look at the cylinders . If there is no chrome pealing then I would order some standard bore rings , large end rod bearings and rod bolts . Remove the intake ant you can reach the rod bolts from the front half . One at a time , remove a piston , check the ring gap on the new ring and reinstall the piston with the new rings . Repeat this one all 6 cylinder . When your done , then top it off with the 2.0 ( 3 1/8") cylinder heads .
