1977 Evinrude 140 hot starboard side.
1977 140 hp. Evinrude.
Overheat on starboard side. Idling.
New water pump w/ housing, stats, poppets,
Still hot up to 180° idling
Pulled water jacket covers saw this
Cleaned out thoroughly, new gasket, reassemble.....still hot. 180 idling.
Pulled head.
Thought I would see a LOT more crap in there.
Doesn't look bad.
Diverters in their respective places, but not round.
Appears as if they're not allowing water flow around cyls. anymore.
Don't see any crud in between cylinders.
Pistons look good, cylinder walls good, no scoring or gouging.
No wear ridge whatsoever.
Still has good crosshatch.
Motor runs real nice, starts very quickly, idles smooth.
Looks like I need diverters and new head gaskets.
What size fuel line for diverters?
Any doo - doo to hold 'em in place?
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance!

You need new water deflectors, they are the rubber hoses in the block. If they are leaking they will not allow the water to go to the top of the block so you need to replace them. They should be round and yours are egg shape. You also need to replace them on the other side of block as well, The head holds them in,they should go in tight, sometimes we need to use a little grease to get them in./
Here you go ref # 12 http://shop2.evinrude.com/Index.aspx..._id=0&siteid=1
Deflector, water passage, just look up your motor.Last edited by perfmarine1; 08-25-2019 at 11:00 AM.
