No, SolarCity was a business that Elon Musk had invested in separately, and sold to Tesla to share the losses with Tesla's shareholders.

Since Tesla bought it, they announced solar roof tiles that did not go anywhere, and they have lost a lot of market share in the home solar panel business to Sunrun.

It seems like Tesla knew that the panels were faulty, but kept the lid on it:

I never leave my charging lipo batteries unattended. I also put them in a ceramic dish. Some people use converted metal ammo boxes. No way I would charge a Tesla under my roof!!!
