    Verado Pump noise level

Adding Verado Power steering to my boat this winter.
Boat already has merc hydro steering.

    My question
Is the pump loud enough that I would want it in the transom area under a seat?
I would prefer to mount under the helm to reduce the length of pump to helm hoses

With the motor running you may just hear a hum.

If you can put it in the stern due so. The lines act as cooling for the fluid. In certain (rare) instances the fluid can overheat with really short lines from the pump to the helm. If I have to mount one under the console and have room to hide a coul of hose i always put long hoses on and hide the coil.

    Thank you
    Great info.
I can install at the stern, under a seat, just wanted to make install easier and less holes in the boat.
This is a tri toon with large raised helm. so i could easily hide 20ft of pump to helm hose coiled under the helm

You would give up that easy to use storage space. Plus I "assume" the battery is in the stern too. The verado pump his pretty high amp and needs substantial cables if it's far from the batteries. Easily as large as the hoses.

    Good point,
60 amps over 15 feet would need approximately 6 gauge wire

Ill have to sit down and think about what other crap ill be putting on the boat like amplifiers and extra lighting.

It may be worth running 6 or 4 ga up to helm, or might be cheaper to just buy long hoses and put pump near battery.

The pump needs it's own dedicated power right from the battery. If you run a large gauge to the helm then power the pump and other things off if you are gonna have some interesting side effects.

Going to start planning out the install this weekend.

I know there is a 3 terminal connector that goes to the motor to signal engine running for pump to operate.
Any tips on where to find it? or will it be obvious. I have to order or find a manual for the motor

Anybody know why they haven't added a mechanical pump on these motors as a option? Seems it would be cleaner and less complicated than a 60 amp electric pump.

Sure would be nice, to have it factory installed instead of an auxiliary pump

The new motors are available with either.

If you ran a motor with the power steering you wouldn't want the mechanical.

I was talking about a belt or otherwise mechanical driven power steering pump vs electric.

Power steering connector was centered at the stern of the motor under a cover under cowl. Was clearly labeled, could not have been more impressed.
