Speedracer would be the buy - that's Rayzor's old boat.

Speedracer has original tanks. Anybody know what Skater charges to do the tanks?

Just my opinion, but with the introduction of these new motors, the price of the 28's are skyrocketing. You may not find one similarly priced for the same condition you could a few years ago. Good luck in your search

Tanks getting striped and sprayed was 7K at Skater a few years ago. (The process does not give you new fuel tanks separate from the running surface, inside tunnel wall and outside of the boat)-they strip the softened resin and finish them with an ethanol resistant coating. If the tanks are bad, you can pretty much bank on the core being wet on one of the three sides unless the issue is discovered in an early phase. I have seen a bunch of them now including two that I had. The 7K figure is just a start if that is the case (balsa sucks up fuel just like it does water).

    Its a very nasty job-

Is there a way to have a bladder made to fit inside the tank instead??

Yes, bladders are an option but the biggest concern is the structural damage if the fuel has leached thru. There are several out there that have composite tanks in them that Doug Wright has built. They get glassed to running surface cross member supports, the inside tunnel wall and the outside of the boat and make it very rigid.

1st picture is the stock "fuel compartment structure".
2nd picture is the new running surface support and cross members for the new composite tanks to get glued on to.
3rd picture is the new composite tanks from the top side "thought we were done"...
4th and 5th pictures are when I discovered how big the soft spot was I said "gut it"
    6th picture is gutted...

As you can see in the 4th, 5th, and 6th pictures, the outside of this particular 1997 24' that the outside of the boat is cored with closed cell composite foam. The running surface is all balsa core and the inside tunnel walls had no core. The boat is now entirely composite cored everywhere "all balsa is removed and core has been bagged in place.

This is NOT a 7k job

Is spending so much to repair these 28’s a Skater cult think or is it specific to the 28 because there are so few options in this size? It makes no financial sense.

I really don't think that people know what they are getting into most of the time. I have a friend with a 36 (2009) that has a 40K estimate to fix the core right now. No need to deal with it when you can get a fully composite constructed hull today-yet they continue to build them.

Yeah I dont want one anymore, there way overpriced and can get wet cores and bad tanks, I am going to look for something without wood or am going to just make my own boat if cant find one.
