    Fuel Pump VRO Delete

I have a 1987 GT150. I am deleting VRO. I have two new pumps off an older 150. Both pumps have 3 ports. How can I make them work? Can I tee off of the pulse hose for both pumps?

Because it leaks and I never trusted any oil pumping system.

I'm about to do a start-up on a 1989 Johnson 70HP that hasn't been run since 94. I'm hoping the VRO is good the're over $400 to replace.

It will probably leak, when they sit that long the o rings dry up and leak. You can switch to the old style sm pump and mix, they are much more reliable. and only $100

There may be a port plugged on the crankcase above the one for the vro you can use

I'm hoping not. Still has oil in it and has been stored inside. Will find out soon. But will definitely go with a delete since I will only use the boat 2 weeks out of the year.

To the original posters question, yes you can tee them. But keep the lines as short as possible. The longer the line, the more of an increase in crankcase volume which will decrease overall performance.

I bought a 1990 140 with the vro already disconnected but still using the vro pump. Having fuel delivery problems so I replaced pump with an old style. What I did was buy a used pump off of ebay and also a pump rebuild kit. All I had to do was drill the existing bracket for the old style pump, and all was good. Total price was about $30 for pump and kit.

If you go this route, 2 things to watch for. 1 being there are so many cheap chi-knee knock offs for sale, make sure you are getting an oem pump. 2, there are 2 styles of fuel pump from the early oem. A very slight difference in the shape of the pump, but the rebuild kit is model specific.

Yea one side has oil and the other side has gas, the gas side will leak, now sometimes if you put gas to it and it leaks you can let it sit and may swell the o rings and seal.

You could even use the plastic air-cooled engine pumps that are on lawn mowers.

The VRO pump survived the long storage, no leaks. I did replace the pulse limiter to the new blue type. Supposed to be better than the original at protecting the pump from case firing.
