By "burn one down" he meant "melt piston". Need to know what happened so as to not repeat.

Indeed burn a two stroke down encompasses many outcomes. Corked cyl from out of round to rings burnt into pistons to pitted domes to all sorts of poor air/fuel/spark relationships that can all happen so very fast. As I was suggesting earlier the cause of this happening can sometimes be a challenge to find.
Way off track here I still say the easy road is to drop prop pitch and run it til she goes. If its running mid 40mph on a 17 pitch? The motor isn't working bad so Im betting on set up with prop/engine height being where the gains are to be had.Hydrostream dreamin

Finally went out yesterday, however didn't really try anything other than new spark plugs. There is very large difference in planing times with 1 vs 5 persons , using a 17 pitch. Its about almost instant to 5-8 seconds.
I did bore-scope the engine and noticed #5 and #6 have almost no carbon on top of the piston while the rest do. 5 and 6 plugs are also rather wet with not a lot of carbon. I'm not sure what that means.
You can check out the borescope pictures and spark plug pictures (Click here) .
Timing pointer checks out, compression is 120 all around (didnt reach #6 though).
I'm back in school so progress will be slower. I plan to do the changes mentioned on here, and will run a leakdown test in the next few weeks. I also just got a 15 pitch i will try out.
I will report back with any findings for those who are curious, or for those with similar issues in the future.
Thanks for the help so far!Last edited by kswiatk; 08-26-2019 at 09:05 AM.

Great follow up! Keep it coming mate
I hate when people don’t follow through with the solution to their problems. Nobody learns from that.

5 people in my ski boat and it was a slug too. Weight killed yer performance but a 15 pitch will probably work better anyways. Mid 40mph is far more than you need for skiing so you might as well gain the bottom end with a smaller prop. Let us know how the 15 works out

We used to cut to the inside whip out, boat would turn back hard toward skier, skier would let go at top speed and tryto make it back to the boat on his own speed, no tow rope! we got pretty good at it used a g-3 with 75 omc. cut the wheel hard over, wide open. never flipped.

I'd definitely least check carbs on bottom cyls 5&6 , they should look like the rest, maybe weak spark? Bottom cab flooding , just make sure u cover basics

Five in the boat? What is the capacity of the boat? When pulling a slalom skier, keep the weight in the boat down. My 1350 would pop up a slalom skier really fast with a couple in the boat, add another person and it made a noticeable difference. Add another and it was a struggle. I don't know many 16 foot boats that have a capacity of five people. My 17 foot tri-hull capacity is 750lbs. This includes motor, people and gear.

750 lbs? With boat, motor and gear? That is nothing. I think my 17' trimate is twelve hundred with boat motor and gear. I could be wrong, but will make note of it next time I am near boat.
My 1979 1150 pushed a heavy deep v that was rated for a 150, and was able to put the boat on plane with 6 adults and 2 on tubes. May have been more in the boat, it was a long time ago. But, I remember it worked. Motor was stock, outside of 1 piston being over sized after a meltdown. Something is definitely wrong with this guys 115. Not sure if his was made before or after they were taking horsepower ratings from the prop shaft.
