The T-4 3.4 Litre V-6 was an EFI only powerhead & was on a short 12'' open exhaust midsection & speedmaster gearcase, that was only intended to be used on a tunnel hull. Some had a slightly larger bore for more horsepower. The standard 3.4 EFI powerhead was approximately 340 horsepower, the analog computer could be programmed for a bit more. Big-bore versions even higher.

There is a pair in Bay City I've serviced for many years on a grady white. The old man has old timers I'm told...but in the past twenty some odd years Ive built one gearcase and usual carb and fuel pumps, a switch box or two..they were propped at 5400 and were very civilized idling. Id rather have a 3.4 than a styrofoam half johnson 3.0.

Sitting in a meeting one day the talk got around to the 3.4 - new guy asked one of the engineers in the meeting what kind of hp did they ever produce? Engineer whose name I have forgotten, and English guy, said the big bore EFI's could produce 450 on the dyno. New guy's reply "That's insane!"

...You forgot steering, lol. Kinda agree about props. Needed a couple "Mercury" brand props for it. Aftermarkets were there, but... Even when the 3.0 came out, it wasn't EFI right away. What was it, '96 Merc's went EFI, including most MerCruisers? Trim system existed that could handle the abuse. It was used. Different gear ratios? Eh, yeah, maybe. Props would have done the trick. What? You didn't like the clam-shells?
