Change the old wiring or, if it ain't broke don't fix it?

    1987 2.0l 150hp...

I have every reason to believe my pretty good running 2.0l has all old original wiring. The stator had the yellow wires with the insulation all brown and cracked with large bits of it missing altogether... Yet... It actually ran pretty well for the last two years until it developed a miss at idle. The trigger/timer base wires are all that soft noodle feeling, so I ordered a new trigger to replace my old one. I am thinking of just going ahead and ordering a new engine harness and primary wires too.

What do you think? Good idea? Bad idea?

I've personally never had a motor harness issue ,but if u wanna change u can, I believe those wires last longer than stator or trigger wires

    Short answer yes worth it!
What's it look like what do wires feel like and gauge.
Ever have any electrical problems before?
I would check all the wires for corrosion etc use a gauge and see.
Wires/insulation terminals deteriorate with age and movement and if the other wires are shot it's worth the (mine were $90 a piece cdi)for piece of mind
And hell just looked ALOT better

I usually replace wiring if its old or looks iffy.
Different motors but I replaced mine when I was building the new powerheads.. harnesses were 88..
Never had a problem Ran great..
But when I took them off I checked the wires and definitely not in great shape..

Ive come across a bunch that ran fine but were crap and some you would think there's no way this thing ran but

    Thanks, guys.

I’ve already changed the stator and trigger with the scuzzy wires. It just feels better having new wires. I suspect the wires are as old as the motor itself (1987 2.0l 150). Even the engine harness is wrapped in black electrical tape, though the wires I see look decent enough.

Say, how durable are the primaries that run from switch boxes to the coils? Mine look pretty decent.
