2.7 Heads on 3.0 I know, dead horse
Ok, so I have browsed through the posts on here but most are pretty old...was wanting to get some fresh feedback on the idea of 1986 2.7 200XP Evinrude heads on a 1989 225 plain old Evinrude.. First of all, can I just take the heads off the 1986 2.7 and slap them on the 1989 225 with no mods or anything done to them? Then, if those fit what kind of performance expectations should I have? What changes? I have seen people say they get 120 PSI from about 90 on this swap... The 225 is in decent shape, probably going to need main and rod bearings but will last a few months til the end of this season.. I would love to get more top end... Its on a 1986 Baja 200 Sunsport.. I usually get 93 octane.. Boat only gets to about 53 MPH..was expecting more... 21 inch prop... Need to hook up new tach still, Not sure what RPMs are... Please, let me know all you can about this idea...put links to other threads, comment, or just tell me to forget it!! Thanks!

Are you running the airbox?
With the heads you will need to rejet up a couple sizes.
Can also use the thinner gaskets since you will need gaskets anyway(93 and newer) for 5lbs comp(does vary) but i got 4-5 on my motors(my old motors not my current ones these were milled and need the thicker gaskets)....
Your not going to do any other mods correct?
Do you have or have access to a set of heads or???Last edited by mrichartz; 08-14-2019 at 02:41 PM.

Yes, I have a compete 1986 all original 200 XP.. Never been apart until last year when I just put fressh rings and Carson Reeds on it...Now I also have a pair of 1989 225s...was gonna put the heads from teh 200 XP on the 225.. I have seen so many different things about having to rejet, some say you do, some say you dont. All I am doing is the heads, probably not even milled at firts, New Carson sport reeds and thats about it for now.. Of course I want to know all the little things to do everyone always asks about to get the most power out of it.. Porting is about the only thing, correct? I dont see that happening... So, any Ideas would be great.. I actually bought a pair of the 225s so I can experiment if one blows up! I'll be starting taking it apart soon, the 225 that is, as it needs upper bearings and I will probably hone and do new rings and all bearings while its out... Is there any advantage or disadvantage to running the air box? The old 200 I ran it without, mostly because I always had carb issues with it and was earier to keep them off..the 225 I ran with it on, completely stock on that one.. You saying 93 and newer head gsakets are thinner and get a few more point of compression? Will probably use stock at first...will try that later on... What other mods do you suggest for max HP an these Bauties??? Thanks, I'll try to post pics when I start the project..

Don't run without the airbox if you don't rejet it will run to lean.
you rejet about 10 sized up with no airbox..
Drill the lower unit to relieve the exhaust.
If your doing Reed's look into Carsons intake spacers good for 7hp+- and easy to do.
Higher comp Heads need to be Rejetted too up a couple sizes.. depends on how much compression.
Mods all depend on how much work you want to do.

I'll do The Work
If it is work and average DIYer can do it (I would consider myslef and advanced DIYer) than I will do it...I just dont have a lot of experience modding these things, rebuilding yes. Like when you say drill the lower unit, not quite sure what that is..I'm new to that sot of thing.. Is there anywhere on here that explains all these things? I'll check on teh Carson spacers, that's easy enough to do while doing the rebuild anyway. I'm going to look into the jetting ideas some more...maybe ask Carson and others too..not that I dont believe you but I ahve seen so many different conflicting reports...makes send you would need to rejet.. Thanks for the feedback..hope to get started once dylight savings and springing forward!! Hope to put pictures of teh process on here...

Ok,
I am really happy with my stuffers, a clearly noticeable impovment in throttle response!
Visited the CCMS page just minutes ago but I can’t find the Looper stuffers I got from Chris!? I was just curious about the 7hp gain.
Otherwise, I haven’t done anything to my motor since september, but with sun slowly returning my motor head is awakening again...However, during the winter I have built another 2.7 fingerport sleeper that hopefully will find a new owner before summer!

Yes I know it was from someone I trusted/believed Al or one of the other guru's it said 7 hp but that's why I put +-
Read it months ago about stuffers same as milling and started long time ago milling the front half.. why I had mine cut in these to.
Wanted to look into the stuffers too. Or overkill?
