Mercury 150efi (1998) Head Gaskets
I have a 98 150efi 2.5L that uses head gaskets vs O-Rings for the Heads.
The Victor Reinz gaskets that I purchased for the rebuild will not allow the pistons to protrude past the deck height the 0.004" which they are supposed to.
From what I can read, the piston is actually designed to have a positive deck height.
The bore on the gasket is smaller than the cylinder bore. When the head is torqued into place, the engine will not rotate due to the piston interfering with the head gasket.
S/N is 0G452370.
Can any please shed some light on this topic??
I am using a WSM engine kit but my supplier went an o-ring kit so that is why I purchased the Victor Reinz gaskets separately. Mercury Marine calls for a 27-8228441 which has been superseded by 27-822844T05.
Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to the site. I just received a gasket kit fro Pro Marine for an xr4 88-90 and the head gaskets were wrong (no dowel holes) as was the exhaust divider (2.4 not 2.5). Above info is very likely correct.
