I can I find out what gear ratio is in lower unit?

You can look on the top flange of the case where it mates up to the lower flange of the midsection. It’s typically stamped in this location (unless someone changed the guts and installed different gears).

After removing the unit, I put it on my bench and had to do my "honey do list"
Didnt really have time to look at it then.
I did what you say, had to do some cleaning and bad news for me,,, it SEI.....aka - china crap.
After cleaning the label off....... well, Im depressed now. I need a different unit, I not even going to screw with this..

When I brought it from a dealer in Fl. aka ebay. was suppose to be a 1996 Merc 225 hp card'ed
But from my research and parts that I have been buying I now believe its @ least a 1998.If you think this is fun, wait til next weekend!
