I am always looking for every but of power I can find, and from what I have seen, you are too.
Just a quick search finds some interesting info.
http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthread.php/1527-What-does-a-boost-bottle-do-for-a-2-stroke
The reason we have reeds are because of the "spit-back" you describe Tejas (i dont know if u said that, i didnt read all your post). A person who says they are junk probably doesnt know much about motors, because they help a lot. If a 2 stroke is ever out of tune (without a boost bottle or reeds) the air/fuel mixture will spit out the carb really bad, and you will even get exhaust fumes sometimes. A boost bottle catches that fuel coming back, and lets it go easily back into the cylinder each time piston comes down to let in fuel/air. Thereby improoving throttle response, and power. This idea is rather new and very true. I know a guy that uses this technology in conjunction with other technoligies of his own design and makes engines get 50% better gas mileage and 10 times better throttle response. All this with a carbed engine too. His 350 chevy of this design with a 550 holley 2 barrel got 30 miles to the gallon while making close to 500hp. He uses this technology on all his machines and twin turbo V-max 600 sled. You may not believe this, but it is very true. He has had this idea for over 10 years, but has tried to been bought out by oil companies, manufactures, and other but none of them wanted to pay him. One company in particular stole part of the idea and made engines that ran worse but didnt know why, yet sold them anyway. Tucomshe to be exact (I tried the best on the spelling).

Ski Doo snowmobile had the boost bottle on earlier 2000's, 2 stroke, 2 cylinders and then they faded away with fuel injection.

Crank fed outboard it’s not that effective. It works the opposite of stuffers. Before the reed it might. But not much behind the reed.
many cars have them in the stock intake tubes, it improve throttle response and works as a silencer

They need to be mounted between reeds and carb!
My experience is that they need to be placed above the intake. I’ve used a program called bimotion to calculate hose length, canister size etc. When using this software you can decide at what rpm you want the bottle to work (its resonance rpm). Lower the rpm, longer the hose.

As an example; my sons scooter moped, just shy of 20hp. Homemade (by me) intake mainfold. Boost Bottle attached just short of the reeds. Much smoother idle and better response.
A simple chart showing different hose length at various rpm. Ok, Swedish text, but I think you get the idea... Bimotion.
Looper being built in my garage, just an idea of where to place the nipples for the hoses.

So I am guessing you would need a bottle for each cylinder?
You reap what you sow, corny but true.

I think so, but I am not sure. I think Yamaha used their YEIS-system on two cylinder applications whereas the two intakes shared the same bottle!?
Some interesting reading:

If you find some pics of a Dave Bush OMC drag motor from 10+ years ago I think you will see he tried tbis.

Yes, always!
Its time to start deciding the p/h mods for the upcoming winter.
Right now I’m a bit short of ideas, apart from perhaps some adapter mods to straighten the exhaust path.
