If you took your carbs and reed block off to put in different reeds, It'd be a good idea to check for vacuum leaks. See my post:

Thanks for pointing that out. Ironically, I had that exact problem a couple of three years ago after switching to Chris Carson reeds. Starboard side. Upper carb. Gasket sucked in. Discovered it one calm morning on the muffs with the cowls off trying to figure out the erratic idle. I noticed the cloud of smoke was getting puffed every revolution. I thought “WTF!” And that’s when I saw it.

I realized that I had used a cheap reed block/intake gasket and I had greased it (bad move), to make it easier to remove next time. When I told my neighbor (machinist), he took the reed block and checked for flatness. It was slightly warped here and there, including where the gasket sucked in. He told me it should have held anyway if installed correctly and without grease. Anyway he took it and machined it flat anyway. Haven’t had that problem since

1987 V150 stock except for CCM/Chris Carson reeds...

OK, so I took off the front cover off the carbs and pumped up the ball good and firm and noticed this gusher out of the bottom left Venturi (as you are facing the motor):

What is the likely problem/cause? I assume this could be part of my occasional idle miss? AND since the carbs were done in summer 2017, is it probably OK just to pull and rebuild the bottom one?

    Brilliant!

By that, I presume you mean that when you flip over the float bowl, that float dangles lower? Because that is precisely what I just found. The factory service manual says that when you flip over the float bowl, the float should hang 1/16" below the bottom edge of the bowl. The leaker hangs at least twice that... 1/8" or more. Probably the culprit, eh? Unless I have my logic backwards.

Been fixed for two years. Just realized I never came back with the resolution to this.

it was pretty much as you suggested… I got fuel spilling out the venturis of the offending carb when squeezing the bulb hard. Pulled the carb, found the float not right, set it right and problem solved. Been great ever since.
