You ever eat any blacktip shark. I have and I don't care for it. Some people love it, I don't know why.

Cut tail off when caught to bleed out while still alive - gruesome.
Remove skin from steaks or filets.
Soak steaks or filets in milk overnight.
Marinate in Italian dressing in zip-lock bag at least 6 hours. More is better.
    Grill.
Prepared and cooked in this fashion, most people like it. Removes the " pissy " odor.
Sharks can be stinky. You could always smell a shark boat coming through the pass.
Guys would cut fins off and dry them out in the parking lot. Smell was horrendous, even if driving by in car.
This was 30 years ago, bet the city doesn't allow that no more.

Didn't cut the tail off but I did soak it in milk. Everyone else enjoyed it and ate all I cooked. It didn't stink I just didn't care for the taste. Maybe I'm spoiled from eating fresh fish less than an hour after catching it when I was working offshore.

Ya wanna smell stinky, drive by a pogie plant when they are processing them. I don't know of anything that stinks worse than that.

I went to a wedding in the Bahamas. The chef was a giant Bahamian guy. He brought out trays of what I thought was bbq pork. He gave me a taste and I still thought it was pork. He said, noooo mon it's black tip shark. They smoke it and then soak it in bbq sauce. It was fantastic. Smoky and sweet, with a tang....Perfect texture...I tried to replicate it, and failed miserably.

Thanks for sharing, that is a cool video.
I thought the majority of fish were cannibals, out side of the scum suckers like carp and such. Kind of like birds or democrats most will eat their own.

As far as sharks having a high mercury content, I thought that in certain areas it is not recommended to eat a lot of fish or any at all by children or pregnant women. Lake Michigan has been like this for a while.

From my understanding, there is not a lot of places in the u.s where it is recommended for children or expectant mothers to eat locally caught fish more than once a week, or at all.
Supposedly, fast growing, short lived fish have less of a chance of collecting and concentrating nasties like mercury, pcb's and such.
Can't avoid toxins in fish with all the industry and coal burning power plants everywhere.
I'll take my lumps. In Dunnellon, Fl., I was eating large portions of fresh largemouth bass 3-5 times a week.
(Maybe that's what i s wrong with me!!) Too delicious to put down.
I could see the coal cars running the tracks to Crystal River's waterfront power plant, then watch the clouds come in with the seabreeze right over where I was fishing. All the while knowing darn well fish is on tonight's menu!
And yes, I thought about it.
Going to the Smokey Mountains next week, gonna catch some trout. I'll bet there's an advisory even there in the middle of the Appalachians. No worries, I'm eating them anyway.
Probably less toxic than what you get in farmed salmon, talapia, or shrimp.

Just about every place and body of water is now polluted as far as food fish goes. Even in the south pacific where the water is miles deep there is pollution. A friend of mine died at a surfing event where he was competing from a bacteria in the water. This was bora-bora. (paradise?) Runoff from the land and warm tropical waters made a perfect place for bacteria to grow. We now have a flesh eating bacteria on the west coast of fla showing up from boca grande all the way to the panhandle. Especially bad in the venice to st petersburg area. This is where the majority of the runoff comes off the land. (tampa bay) And I agree less toxic than farmed food fish and shrimp. When I was a kid we ate oysters and scallops all the time. Now they are polluted by fresh water and will kill you. Fresh water entering salt is the biggest pollutant there is.

I grew up on Madeira Beach late 70's early 80's.used to get buckets of quahogs all over Boca Ciega bay.
Seem to have all but disappeared about 10 -15 years ago.
    More frequent red tides.
No parking room at boat ramps on weekends.
Became way too commercialized, nearly unrecognizable from what I remember as a kid.
Started going to longboat key, midnight pass area. It, too got too busy. Couple holiday weekend shootings, and cops started patrolling overcrowded free waterfront parking lots on horseback. Too many.... Uh, you know who's.
    Disturbing trend.
Moved 100 miles north to citrus county. Still vast, seemingly endless shallow grass flats.
Good scalloping. Wonder how long it will stay open. They are getting hammered. Be warned of those shallow water rock piles. Had a few close calls!
Nothing like same day caught bay scallops broiled with butter. Actually worth all the work!

Yep, the more the population increases, the further I move away.
Side-note, open borders is the way to fix our problems. (sarcasm)

Years ago there was a guy that got cut by a fish he caught, while fishing at the Jetties of the Calcasieu river/ship channel and in 24hrs. he was dead. Some kind of bacteria.
