    V4 Eninrude/Johnson?

    Hi all,
Question for members that recaall Kankakee..
Many years ago, maybe the height of OPC Nationals in Kankakee, there was a class (I cannot recal the name) where I believe consisted primarily if not exclusivley Johnson/Evinrude. From what I remeber the calss was V4's, Loopers? Stingers/Javelins with modified lower units. Anyway, This was one of the classes (besides MODVP) that was a highlight at least for me, because of the distinctive sound they made going by, gave me chills. I miss that sound like no other.
Can someone here shed some light on what class that was? The boats and motors than made up that class?

    Thanks..

    Sst 100 ?

could it have been SST100? Being a super stock class there wouldve been only Johnsons or Evinrudes.
    the V4's do sound sweet

I believe they were SST100.. Nothing sounds or sounded like those V4s'.. I do miss the OPC Nationals. We went every year, not missing one. They inspired me to a point I prepared myself an HST with a MODVP to enter the MODVP class, that was the year the discontinued the MODVP class so I sold my rig the next year. Wasn't meant to be I guess...

Down here we have "Texas Tri-Hulls" where the OMC v4's still rule. I love my Merc V6's but those cross flow V4's sure sound wicked too!!!

I doubt pbxcomm is talking about SST100....Way better class was Formula 100 (MOD100 originally).
Formula 100 used the cross flow V4, which had less displacement than the looper, but would them away.

Formula 100 allowed modification to the engines and thus you had many interesting engine configurations. You had Chryslers, Force, Merc and OMCs running against each other competitively, which added to the appeal. Here are some pics from Kanakakee late 80s. 95 is Rick Remley's, 1 is Bob Parsons, and 84 is Roddy Foreman's Force powered Formula 100.

I re-read the original post and saw the part about the Javelins and Stingers. If they were in the class you are correct, it would not have been SST100

Stinger GPs and Super Stranglers were common but most V4s had repurposed 135, 140, or Javelin cowls or whatever came from the salvage yard. Here's a couple of Formula 100 engines from a race in Jensen Beach FL in 1988. Bobby Cullinan's #154 who won that day, cut off the snout on his clubfoot.....must have worked. Keith Barco had a V4 adapted to a CCC mid and lower, also ran well.

it was the mid 80's when I went to my first OPC race and by then Formula 100 didnt exist in region 15. With the exception of Roddy Foremans boat. I'm a big fan of the mid sized boats and motors and hate that i didnt get to see more of them. At least I was lucky enough to catch the sst100's when they were racing

Mod 100 (later mod 110) was basically an unlimited 100 cu in outboard. Formula 100 only allowed 4 venturis. Mostly choked down T2's and super stranglers (stinger)
