Could very well be a modVP. No Oiler and no pulse pump. Nice find.

Those decals aren’t original. Modvp’s with that cowl had the same “mercury” as the Bridgeport’s. Easy to source correct decals on eBay. Or you can keep the blue to match the boat. Just a matter of personal preference

Before we start high fiving, there's still a heat problem and I notice there's no dump from the poppet?

    My experience with the MODVP's:
Out of the factory they are setup to idle very little to wide open Throttle, no long term mid throttle or mid range. The cooling system is setup for this as is the timing.
You will need to check the heads for thermostats (most likley there are none). if there are none you will been to install a restricter washer where the thermostat would normally be. I think a 3/8' washer fits.
Also you should back the MAX timing off of 25 degrees to around 22.

I went with one peice heads (lower compression) otherwise the two peice heads require 100+ octane. Bring the compression down to no more than 140LBS.

As fas as jetting, I ran .062 high speed with the exception of #4 CYL whoch was .064. The number 4 CYL seems to be historically hotter due to timing.

The bridges (across the ports) had tendencies to crack, cave in and grab a ring or two. Run it rich, I always ran 1 1/2 oil pints to 6 gallons. This will help keep those bridges cool.
Again, with the heads you have, you will need to run 100+ octane minimum, anything under you will bring that gem of a powerhead home in a bucket.

might be hard ta see it.. sometimes they must be a little weak with tha hammer but its there in that general area...

last two numbers may be 84, 85,or 86 (year)

0A is early second gen. block number but tha two piece heads went away in '87 best I remember..

So if I’m supposed to use 100 octane would using 87 cause it to overheat?

Buzzin is correct definitely 1pc plate, no poppet dump check for washers.
I agree with tlwjkw check compression before running again!
