1988 Shadow VT

I am looking at a 1988 Shadow VT--It looks very nice but i have no knowledge of this boat. I am hoping for lots of feedback and recommendations. Thank you---Going to be used as a lake boat.

I know quite a bit about the boat and company from research I've done. Here is a write up I did on the history awhile back.


My boat is one of the last ones built by Jay

Jay Cox built them from 1986-mid 88. They were never too profitable and were relying on bank loans the last year. He sold the molds to a guy in KY who made them from late 88-91. From there I'm not 100% what happened to the molds but I heard a company called Nu legend boats had/has them. Jay built every boat with hand laid fiberglass. The company in KY used a chopper gun and is why they had lamination issues, they were also uneven and the weights differed between boats by a lot. I'm not sure how many bass boats were built but a lot more than ski top boats. Jay built about 20-25 ski tops from what I've gathered. They had quite a few options such as ski storage in the floor, glove box, radio, live wells, ski poles, factory covers, dual or single axle trailers, hydraulic jack plates, teak trim, embroidered seats/upholstery, etc. Ski top boats were a bit lighter than the bass boats but not by much. If you look at the tunnel hull you can see a lot of influences from Allison. If I remember anything else I'll post it here. This info was from all my own research and people I've talked to.
