Bill Petty
A friend told me that Bill Petty passed away on the 13th. I didn’t know him back in his racing days but met him several times in his later years......he was a neat guy!

I'm not sure if Bill ever raced here in Canada, but I know a few Canadians had help from Bill in set-up as he was extremely well known and very good at it.
On another website there are several pictures of Bill from St. Mary's OHIO in the early 70's. His racing number was #199.

So anyone have any good Petty stories back in the day? A buddy told me a crazy one about a ride in Bill's private jet from Parker to Vegas one night......that probably should not be repeated.

Bill was just as competitive in a single, as he was in a twin. His equipment was always first class. If he wasn't traveling to a major event, he was driving to support local club races in the greater OH area. Even ran a club races in Michigan a few times. He truly loved to drive race boats. I, for one admired his dedication to the sport, his community, and his family. Enjoy a well deserved rest Bill. with regards and respect to the family.
Also, if it happened in Bill's plane...going ANYWHERE...it surely does need to stay right there. No need to retell it.

I met Bill at the 65 Miami/Nassau race--He was flying a BEAUTIFUL 310---
He wanted to be an OFFSHORE RACER---
I met him again at the 67 Bahamas 500--with an ALL ALUMINUM OFFSHORE BOAT--
Over the years I raced with him--and against him--usually following behind that 18' twin Jones
REST IN PEACE, BILL

Parker, March 1970
This was the Jones raced by Bill Cooper (I think--Willabee??)
Bill finished second in 'class' that day---
