2.5 crank big vs small bearing
How hard is it to fit a 2.5” non-oiler 1.5” top journal crank into a later model 280 block? Do you just use the smaller 1.5” bearing and the matching top cap in the newer block? Or is it much better to stick with a big bearing crank?

the question is why put a small bearing crank in a 280 block you can use a small bearing crank in a big bearing motor just got to put a collar on it but I would not be comfortable with a small bearing crank

Because I have one already and it looks like a new big bearing crank is around $2000 :-(

Just use it...bearings fowwle the crank.....JMO...Just don't use plastic....Sand the rings for more.... did I say that????? heeHee..

Mercury made an adapter to install small crank to big 280 block I have the part number at home dunno if they still make it !!!Ive used it lots of times ...

pretty pricey, it only adapts crankshaft with 1.5" upper journal to big bearing blockdeath is certain; life is not

You can find good used big bearing cranks for around 800
