    Actual weight of mercury 450r

I just took the motor out of the crate. I hung it from my digital scale without cowl and full of oil. Weight was 693 and another 28 for the cowl. TOTAL ACTUAL WEIGHT OF THE 450R IS 721 LBS. Claimed weight is 689.

1st thought, How did you manage to fit 32lbs(~4gallons) of oil in that thing. 2nd thought, Well that makes its cost per pound a little better. 3rd though, At that weight there are definitely some boats that should not have one on the back. My 2100 comes to mind.

I am fine with it as long as they can still get away with not posting actual horsepower (consumers come out way ahead on the h.p. to weight ratio for any discrepancy). We knew that they would be heavy with the advanced midsection and they were never intended for us "broke little boat guys" as witnessed in Nashville at the release but they did give us the 300R and its killer potential.

So right off the bat, the Sportmaster is 11 lbs heavier than the standard HD. Oil is 15 lbs, and steering actuator is 10 lbs.

I believe everyone was comparing Opti weights without the oil tank, steering, or setback brackets. Remember, these Verado and 450R midsections have 5" of setback built into them.

Oh, and the tie bar engines are even heavier!!
A problem is only a problem when viewed as a problem...

You never see hipo boats (motors) round Nashville, dont have a clue why but , I've got 2 allys that run same river I do and that's it , one with 280 and one with bp. Haven't seen anything "R" local, lots fishin and consumer stuff. no race stuff , guess just to much cabbage for average boater round here
