How long should it take for Merc 200 EFI to start peeing on a garden hose?

I put a 200 EFI on my bass boat. I started it up for the first time today in the driveway on a garden hose. I used to have an XR4 150 carb motor. That would start spitting and dribbling water in about a minute and go to peeing constantly in about 2 minutes. The 200 EFI started dribbling a little water after about 90 seconds. But at 3 minutes I shut it down because it didn't start peeing constantly after 3 minutes.

Does anyone think I have a problem here?

The best thing you can do is drill holes in the themostasts.....that way instant pee... Also do a W/ pump.....then ya know...... your good to go.

Ok first start with the super easy part of making sure the earmuffs/nosecone are in proper place with full hose pressure. I'm assuming you have stock 143°thermostats which will take a minute to open up. (Do not go and drill a thermostat) if you question the old ones, get two new they are cheap. And of course check the waterpump, if you've found a bunch of crystallized nasty salt around the pump, chances are you could have some up in the water passages (salt away works ). Try the maintenance steps for the cooling system and you'll be fine.
My 2.4 blackmax is mechanically sound and pisses a water stream great in the river, but on the hose it seems to be a little weaker

Like already said- don't drill holes in the t-stats. They are there for a reason. Not sure what l/u you have but make sure ALL the water inlets are covered either by the ear muffs or tape. I use the metal duct tape you can get at HD or Lowes, it's super sticky and strong so fold a pull tab on the end to make it easy to get off. Be sure the hose isn't kinked somewhere and you have full flow. And be sure your warning horn/beeper works. Let the hose run a minute or two before you start the motor.

After all that you don't have a good stream it's probably time for a water pump kit.

It sounds like it is running fine....But does not hurt to:
Make sure you have a good complete water pump kit base and all.
Make sure your horn is working.
If stats are old in salt water use replace them....143* with no holes!
You want that motor to build a bit of heat before dumping.....MPO
