All power considerations will be outboard only. Sorry I wasn't specific. The performance and weight of todays outboards in my opinion exceeds the expectations of I/O and specifically the 450hp rating is with the new Merc OB v8 w supercharger in mind. The other reason in my post it states at least 6 months down the road for this model is based on testing, balance and handling. We can build a boat strong enough but the 450 may be too much as in preliminary testing with a 300R this boat was plenty fast and I think it will exceed 97% of all potential buyers.
And no it wasn't an April fools joke. This project has just taken longer to get launched and now with virus issues i'm sure there may be more.
We are currently working on the fishing platform and right now jumping back and forth
Thanks for the support, be safe and i'll keep posting as things happen

I would still prefer a pair of built 300x. but if you want new, well its 4 stroke or nothing. But as of today, my wife and I are now out of work. So I'm more wondering if they are going to close the lakes or if I can afford to fill the 21 checkmate with gas.

Here are some fun with numbers for the four stroke outboard question. A new 450R outboard weight is 702 lbs, for twin 1404 lbs, (hanging out being the hull) a single 860 hp I/O weight is 1420 lbs. (inside of the hull) now add the drag of a single drive VS twin drives. Old 300x is weight 480 lbs, 2.5 280 HP weight came in at 375 lbs. So there you go.

Hi Poky, sorry to hear that about your jobs. That is why I was kind of reluctant to post until this virus mess is cleared up. I already jumped in head first back in October so there was no turning back on this. The boats are built up by you and I do a lot of my fishing and boating time up in the Illinois chain o lakes. Hope they don't close but now a days who knows.
I hope something changes soon so everyone can go back to work. Hang in there.

This has been a fun thread to follow and BEST of luck on your worthy endeavor!
I was lucky enough to have owned a 21 Cougar with a 300 Merc for a number of years ...lost it all in a garage fire.
I never knew that the 22 had a shallow V center pod. As I remember it the 21 had a flat center pod and while it made the boat very fast for the power it had it also rode like a flat bottom in chop.
Here's a thought for the future (and may it be bright!); In your last post of the hull in the mold there is about a 12 inch section of V on the center pod ahead of the transom, you can see a seam. I wonder how the boat might go if this area was stepped (raised) slightly and flattened? Way back when I had a buddy with a 17' Baja with this modification and they called it a "prop feed". The boat ran great flat out and soft enough at slower speeds to be truly comfortable. Once you're up over 70 or so a prop feed might make your 22 run like a full tunnel instead of a mod VP, wadda ya think??13' whaler w/40, 17' Sutphen w/175, 20' HST w/225, 21' Cougar w/300 ...and next??

Hi Cougar, the pod in the center where you think its a seam is actually a step. There are 2 steps in the center pod with each section a different deadrise. Each step is approx. 1.35" or so. If you look at the large pod section forward this is actually pretty wide and at a point the pod is deeper than the sponsons using that section as a cutting wedge like a V bottom with deadrise at 1 point at approx. 18degrees. Also at the very rear of the pod and sponsons are notched reliefs for cleaner and higher water flow
I'll keep everyone updated as we progress
Thanks
