Late model downdraft 225 Efi 3 liter stage by stage build up

This thread will be to document my build up of a 3 liter with the 555 Motorola ECM. Its going to eventually go on my hydrostream but until then I'm going to use it on my 25' C-Hawk to for testing. Right now the boat is running an old 225 carb powerhead converted to 250 4 butterfly intake with the twin computers, and a 300 on box. Its seen a best of 44mph.

I want to use this powerhead we are building up for a race this fall and to test it before it goes on the hydrostream. If I do something wrong and it eats itself on the chawk at WOT I get towed home.... on the stream I get wet.

The first stage is going to be Chris Carson reeds and stuffers. I've used his reeds in all my motors and countless customer motors with great success. This will be my first time with the stuffer though. I'm also considering stripping the cages and using his reeds for that. Thoughts from anyone?

Also in this first Stage Chaz will be cutting my heads to tighten the motor up some. Going to keep it 93 octane friendly for the moment.

Starting with a low hour motor I went ahead and pulled the heads to send to Chaz. Only broke three head studs, not bad. Two came out with some vice grips and heat the third I'll end up drilling.

Got Chaz the measurements he needed to figure out where to cut the heads. No compression relief notches and 45.5mm height. He seemed really excited by this. he has said he will chime in to help with some of the tech and reasoning for the route we are taking.

    Stage 1.5 will be a swap to a 250ecm

Stage 2 will be a lightened flywheel and notched CPS for a bit more timing.

Stage 3 will be one of Chazs billit 300x style intakes with the injectors outside.

I hope. If nothing else it's a spot for me to keep all my notes and ideas all together with my scattered brain. Case in point. The heads have been boxed up with a shipping label on them for a week and I keep forgetting to drop then off to send to Chazy

    You can re-program your ecm.
Be careful with the timing advance, I would not mess with it.
The intakes are the biggest gain, You need to cut the can, but it makes it loud.
You can easily clean the exhaust area up where blends into the mid, some block work can also be done without removing the liners.
    Good luck with the build.

I may or may not have a way to flash mine to 300x specs....

But I definitely have a spare 250 ecu

Old Charlie should have my heads any day.

Looks like stage one is stage 1, 2, 3, combined ...

The reason I was adamant about ex-port ht is about final "trapped compression" ratio.
    To use round numbers, a 300x has a 1.700 , yours is 1.800
If we were to cut your heads to 61cc like an X has , we would need to run AV gas or it's equivalent "ALL" the time.
Cutting them to 64 - 65cc ( from stock 73cc ) will put you right in the same place that a X is stock, @ your port ht.

Cali .. I disagree with the timing issue. Put a light on a 225/250 and then check a 300x and get back to me.
I wouldn't get the box tuned-up "and" slot the pick-up eye. It would be a, one or the other thing.
I slot the eye ( and use allen bolts as hold downs ) because they need all the help they can get off the bottom, and with stock port timing raising the limiter .. is , well ..

I do agree ... the injectors, harness, fuel rail, bridges and braces don't belong in the plenum ...

I've got some stock rubber baby buggy bumper reed cages and some stripped cages. I'll measure the window opening of both and post the diff ...
